Rita Ann Schulte, 83, of New Albin, Iowa, passed away Monday, Dece. 9, 2013 at Gundersen Lutheran Health Systems in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She was born on May 23, 1930 to Joseph and Florence (Lager) Kelly in La Crosse, Wis. She graduated from New Albin High School in 1948.
Rita was united in marriage with Norbert Schulte on June 28, 1951 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Albin. To this union six children were born, Mary Ellen, Jim, Bill, Stan, Kelly and Jody. Rita was a wonderful homemaker for her family. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Albin and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband of 62 years. She was a wonderful, loving and adoring mother and grandmother who was always there for her family.
Rita loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She enjoyed the many family trips to the cabin resorts in northern Minnesota, especially the long pontoon rides on the lake. Rita enjoyed dancing, playing cards and watching the Minnesota Twins. Most of all, Rita loved visiting with family and friends.
Rita is survived by her husband, Norbert Schulte; her five children, Jim Schulte, La Crescent, Minn.; Bill and his wife, Kelly, Schulte, Chanhassen, Minn.; Stan Schulte, McGregor, Iowa; Kelly Galema and her husband, Wayne, Marshalltown, Iowa; and Jody Garin, Newhall, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Darrin Schulte, Derrek Schulte, Jesse Galema, Nathan Galema, Stacy Galema, Kory Schulte, Ryan Schulte, Kelsey Garin and Alyssa Garin; one sister, Mary Jo Kelly, Apple Valley, Minn.; sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Ellen and son-in-law, Randy Garin.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 from 3 to 7 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. scripture service and a 7 p.m. Rosary at the New Albin Community Center, New Albin. There will also be a one hour visitation before Mass at the church on Friday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin, Iowa with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in New Albin, Iowa.
