A Dec. 15 traffic stop in rural Spring Grove by a Houston County Sheriff’s deputy led to the discovery of a mobile meth lab in the vehicle and additional methamphetamine at a residence in the city of Caledonia.

According to court records, Telly Ranzenberger, the driver, and John McHugh, his passenger, were arrested after deputies witnessed a bag between McHugh’s legs containing aluminum foil, coffee filters and some tubing commonly used in manufacturing meth. There was also a container giving off smoke and was frosted on the outside, which deputies believed contained anhydrous ammonia.

Upon further investigation, a small bag of meth was uncovered.

Investigators then requested and obtained a search warrant for Ranzenberger’s residence in the city of Caledonia where additional meth and meth making tools were found.
