Mary Ellen Davy

Mary Davy_webMary Ellen Davy, 82, of LaCrescent, Minn., formerly of Hokah, Minn., passed away peacefully with family and friends present on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at Golden Living Center in La Crescent.

Mary was born Jan. 25, 1931 in La Crosse, Wis. to Bernard and Helen (Miller) Soller. She graduated from Aquinas High School in 1949 and she married Melvin Davy June 18, 1949 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, La Crosse. Melvin preceded her in death in 2003.

Mary was a wonderful homemaker and helped on the farm south of Hokah for many years. After raising her family she expressed her passion for sewing by creating teddy bears and quilts. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting and made many doilies. She generously gave away many of her creations. Mary learned to drive at the age of 60 and worked for Jeff Alexander at Elite, where she made  uniforms for various sports teams. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her four children, Margaret “Peggy” Stock, Cheryl (Al) Whitesitt, Melvin (Jean) Davy and Mary Kay Davy;   eight grandchildren, Megan, Ian, Leigh (Nathan), Philip (Nicole), Paul (Sheena), Thomas (Tisha), Teri, Michael, and Allen (Katie); 10 great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Eva Rose, Sean, Reice, Addyson, Tate, Jesse, Cody, Katelyn and Zakkary; a sister, Patricia (Tom) Taylor; a brother, Victor Soller; and a special niece and nephew that Mary and Melvin raised as their own, Sharon Gamer and John Davy; and a special friend, Victoria Karels, who came often to visit Mary.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael; a daughter, Jeanette; a son-in-law, Jim Stock; and a sister, Rita Swinghamer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Matt Fasnacht will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday morning before the service at the church. McCormick Funeral Home is assisting the family and online condolences may be given at
