It wasa bit of deja-vu for the Caledonia/Houston/Spring Grove wrestling team Friday night, but this time the result was a good one as the Warriors beat P-E-M 34-33 at Plainview.
After dropping a 34-33 decision to St. Charles in a meet that ended with the teams tied at 33 all, the Warriors again found themselves in the same predicament at Plainview when the match ended tied at 33-33. But this time Caledonia came out on top. Using the same tie-breaking criteria, the Warriors won based on a number of criteria for tie-breakers, including who scored the first match points in each match in the first period of each match. This time the Warriors came out on top, outscoring P-E-M 14-10 to get the dual-meet road win.
Caledonia got wins from Kyle Cavanaugh, Jacob Winjum, Hunter Hauser-Caldwell, Dylan Lee, Drew Stemper, Eli Craig and Blake Mauss with Lee, Stemper and Craig all winning by pin. Sam Stemper dropped a tough, 4-2 decision at 145 pounds with coach Dan Goergen noting that, “Sam wrestled a great match against a good wrestler. Case McCormick also wrestled real well but lost his match at 195 pounds.”
The Warriors hosted Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson Tuesday night and will host Chatfield Thursday night before heading to Kasson-Mantorville Saturday for the Bob Swalla Memorial Tournament.
