The Caledonia/Houston/Mabel/Spring Grove gymnasts lost at Byron 134.4-124.875 Jan. 23.
The Bears won every event on the night with Caledonia’s Sierra Hunter placing third in the all-around, Tara Solberg fourth and Abby Hoskins fifth. “Byron is a solid team and they are stacked quite well with their JV scoring 120 points. I felt we had a good meet but scored a bit low on all events for the routines the girls did,” coach Jackie Johnson said.
Hunter finished fifth on the floor, seventh on the beam, fifth on the bars and seventh on the vault to score 32.05 in the all-around. Byron’s Emma Weatherly scored 34.225 to take top honors.
Emily Hahn turned in the best round of the night for Caledonia as she placed second on the balance beam with a 7.85.
The Warriors’ Kaylee Cavanaugh is nursing an ankle injury she suffered at the Holmen Invitational and was limited to just the uneven bars, where she turned in a team-best score of 8.075 to finish fourth in the event.
Hahn and Jessilynn Knutson took Cavanaugh’s place in the other events and did quite well. “We still managed to hit our average score, which shows just what kind of talent we have on the team,” Johnson said.
Next up for the team is a meet at home against Stewartville Thursday night, which will also mark Parent’s Night and Senior Night. The Warriors hosted Pine Island Tuesday night in a make-up match.
