The Caledonia City Council voted to terminate probationary employee Dan George during a special meeting on Feb. 6. George was hired by the city as a waste water treatment plant operator in December but failed to show up for work on Feb. 3, 4 and 5 and failed to notify the city as to why, according to City Administrator Ted Schoonover.
George was not present during the meeting, which was held in open session. The decision was unanimous by the four council members in attendance; Randi Vick was absent.
The city has struggled to secure a licensed operator for some time and entered into a contract with Dean Kovack last fall to assist Caledonia in hiring a qualified individual. Kovack presented several solid candidates, the first of which turned down on offer from the city based on salary.
