State Senator District 28
During my time in the Minnesota Senate, a priority of mine has been to work with and advocate for organizations in our state that provide support and services to our most vulnerable Minnesotans.
We are blessed in our state to have top rate facilities and organizations with trained and dedicated staff providing high quality care for Minnesota’s elderly and disabled. In the last decade, however, these organizations and their employees have suffered severe funding cuts, pay freezes and economic stagnation that have raised significant challenges such as high turnover rates of their workers and support professionals.
Last session, we were successful in securing additional funding for nursing homes and long-term care facilities and I will continue this work during the upcoming session by co-authoring the 5 percent Campaign legislation as well as carrying the Region 10 Quality Assurance legislation.
The 5 percent Campaign legislation will provide a 5 percent wage increase for Home and Community Based Services and Intermediate Care Facilities for Developmental Disabilities. This increase is desperately needed for workers who have not received costs of living increases in five years and will impact nearly 91,000 care givers and staff throughout the state. I am proud to help ensure that there is a safety net for the most vulnerable Minnesotans and we need to ensure there is adequate funding for those who care for this population.
The Region 10 Quality Assurance legislation will also help these organizations offer more effective care to their clients, along with long-term savings. I have carried this legislation in the past and am looking forward to continuing to improve the assistance provided to individuals with developmental disabilities.
These organizations have done everything asked of them and more to care for our vulnerable population during lean years. This increase will help them maintain high quality staff and improve the quality of their care and services. I look forward to working with the governor and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to see that this happens.
As always, if you ever have any questions, concerns or comments or if I can ever be helpful in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me at 651-296-5649 or at firstname.lastname@example.org. It is an honor to serve as your State Senator.
