Abbreviated BoarD Meeting Minutes – January 21, 2014
The Board of Education of Independent School District No. 299, Caledonia, Minnesota, met in a regular school board meeting in the Middle/High School Media Center. The meeting was called to order by Chair Michelle Werner at 7:00 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said. The school board members present were Jared Barnes, Amanda King, Melissa Marschall, Kelley McGraw, Michelle Werner, Spencer Yohe arriving at 7:15 p.m. and student school board representatives Julia Jones and Lauren Perry. Also present were Superintendent Ben Barton, Nancy Runningen, Paul DeMorett, Barb Meyer, Karen Schiltz, and Emily Bialkowski. Absent was Jean Meyer.
Moved by Jared Barnes, seconded by Melissa Marschall to approve the agenda as amended to remove going into closed session for the superintendent evaluation. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Melissa Marschall, seconded by Jared Barnes, to approve the minutes of the December 16, 2013, regular school board meeting and the January 13, 2014, organizational school board meeting. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Melissa Marschall, seconded by Kelley McGraw, to approve the electronic transfers and bills due and payable amounting to $1,336,144.29 including check numbers 56542 through 56677. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Spencer Yohe, seconded by Amanda King to approve the spring coaching contracts for the 2013-2014 school year. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Kelley McGraw, seconded by Melissa Marschall to set the compensation for regular, special and committee meetings at $50.00 per meeting attended; $75.00 for two consecutive committee meetings attended in a row; out of district meetings attended at $125.00 per day and $75.00 per half day; and mileage allowance at $0.56 per mile or per the IRS Guidelines. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Kelley McGraw, seconded by Jared Barnes to approve the 2014 Pay Equity Report as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Spencer Yohe, seconded by Jared Barnes to adopt the Student Use and Parking of Motor Vehicles; Patrols, Inspections, and Searches Policy #527 as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Jared Barnes, seconded by Amanda King to adopt the Student Parental, Family, and Marital Status Nondiscrimination Policy #528 as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Spencer Yohe, seconded by Jared Barnes to adopt the Staff Notification of Violent Behavior by Students Policy #529 as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Kelley McGraw, seconded by Spencer Yohe to adopt the Immunization Requirements Policy #530 as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Spencer Yohe, seconded by Kelley McGraw to adopt the Pledge of Allegiance Policy #531 as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Jared Barnes, seconded by Amanda King to adopt the Wellness Policy #533 as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Kelley McGraw, seconded by Jared Barnes to modify the Middle/High School Handbook to include a student participation fee in the amount of $35.00 for students in grades 7-12 participating in the One Act Play beginning the 2013-2014 school year. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Jared Barnes, seconded by Spencer Yohe to approve the expenditures of the Second One-Day Bond funds as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Amanda King, seconded by Melissa Marschall to close the meeting at 8:25 p.m. to discuss negotiations. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Kelley McGraw, seconded by Spencer Yohe to convene the regular school board meeting at 8:53 p.m. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Amanda King, seconded by Jared Barnes, to adjourn the meeting at 8:53 p.m. Motion carried by a unanimous vote.
