Led by a first half offensive barrage from sophomore Colton Lampert, the Caledonia boys shook off a sluggish start to the game and rolled to a 98-70 win over Lewiston-Altura in the first round of the MSHSL class 1AA tournament Saturday night.
After the game was postponed twice because of bad weather, the Warriors were maybe a little groggy in the early going as the Cardinals hung with the Warriors and led 20-16 midway through the first half, making even of their first 10 shots in the game. But after that it was all Caledonia.
Led by an 18 point outburst from Lampert, Caledonia regained control of the game with a nine minute, 41-16 run to end the first half and blew the game open. Lampert finished with 20 points, but it was his first-half play that ignited the Warriors. The sophomore scored 18 points in 12 minutes, including three, 3-pointers. Eighth-grader Owen King hit back-to-back three’s also, as Caledonia took over and led 57-36 at the end of the first half.
“They (L-A) came out hitting on all cylinders,” coach Josh Diersen said. “It was a fast paced first half. They made some nice runs but after we got going and took the lead, we never looked back.”
Caledonia then rolled the rest of the way with a half-dozen Warriors scoring in double figures. Lampert took 20, West Spier and Austin Bauer added 16 each, Owen King and Kyle Sorenson scored 10 points each and Josh Nord added 11.
The win sent the Warrios to Rochester Tuesday night where they took on Lake City with the winner playing Saturday at 5 p.m. against the winner of the Chatfield vs. P-E-M game.
