Step away from winter’s long, brutal grasp and get a taste of Branson, Mo., entertainment when The Cat’s Pajamas comes to town Thursday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Caledonia Middle School/High School auditorium.
This group of a cappella vocalists has made appearances on NBC’s “The Sing Off,” “America’s Got Talent” and “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” They are now starring in their own show at the famous Andy Williams Theater in Branson where they perform 200 shows a year for packed houses.
The evening’s performance will mark the end of a long day of visiting and instruction for The Cat’s Pajamas, as local music students will attend a clinic with the group during school.
Caledonia vocal music instructor Ross Martin organized the clinic and concert and said he is thrilled to be bringing such high-caliber talent to town.
“March is Music In Our Schools Month, and I always wanted to get something special in here for the students to experience,” he said. “Students are going to be able to get another view of the professional world and what is actually out there.”
The clinic comes at no cost to the school and is paid for by ticket sales from the evening’s performance.
“We need to fill the auditorium,” Martin said.
Tickets run $15 for adults and $12 for students, while children ages 7 and under are free. Martin said he pressed his students to consider the fact that a movie ticket and popcorn run the same price.
“This is a live national touring act who’s giving a performance and working with you. What could be better?” he said.
Despite national acclaim, members of The Cat’s Pajamas were mostly raised in the Midwest and include members from Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin and Georgia.
Their high-energy brand of a cappella has entertained thousands since 2005 and includes five male vocalists, but the group’s early years stem back to cruise ship performances.
Because the theater does not operate for several months during the winter season, The Cat’s Pajamas decided to tour the upper Midwest and offer schools workshops and the communities a chance to melt away the winter blues.
Partial proceeds from the evening performance will be helping fund the 2015 Caledonia music tour to Los Angeles.
Tickets are available at the MS/HS, Quillin’s, Tamiko’s Salon and from any MS/HS choir student.
To top off the night, Caledonia’s own Jazz Symposium and Barbershop Quartet will be sharing the stage with this group of stars.
