The Spring Grove/Caledonia Lions pounded out 14 hits on offense and Sam Bratland tossed a four hitter with 11 strikeouts on defense as SG/C rolled to a 9-4 win over Plainview-Elgin-Millville Thursday.

The 14 hit attack was led by senior Lottie Augedahl, who went 2×5 with three RBIs and a run scored and Lauren Rusert, who turned in a 3×4 day at the plate with two runs scored.

Emily Rantzenberger was also 3×4 at the plate. Bratland threw 98 pitches, 75 of them strikes and got plenty of help from the offense. The Lions got  a run in the second inning when Rusert singled and scored on Rantzenberger’s base hit. SG/C added two more in the third and three in the fourth on a base hit from Rantzenberger, a double from Alexy Bearbower, a walk, a fielders choice and another double from Augedahl for a 6-0 lead.

P-E-M scored once in the bottom of the fourth but the Lions added three more in the top of the sixth on back-to-back base hits from Taylor and Lottie Augedahl followed by Rusert’s third hit of the game and another base hit from Mackenzie Denstad.

P-E-M did make it a little closer in the bottom of the sixth when Josie Montgomery belted a 3-run home run off Bratland for the 9-4 final.

The team was scheduled to host St. Charles Tuesday at CHS and then travel to Lewiston-Altura Thursday before returning home to host Fillmore Central in a double-header Friday at Spring Grove.
