The poor weather conditions have hampered most local sports teams and the Caledonia/Spring Grove girls golf team is no exception.
The Warriors were able to get in two matches last week, at La Crescent May 5 and at Rushford-Peterson May 6.
Despite the lack of practice time, coach Jacquelyn Snodgrass and her team managed to win both matches as they won a tie-breaker at La Crescent after both teams finished with a score of 228.
La Crescent’s Alexa Nutter won medalist honors with a 46 at Valley High, but C/SG got a 54 from Katrina Paulson and a 57 from Julie Sand to go with a 58 from Ashley Gavin and a pair of 59s from Rebeckah Schroeder and Karli Fishbaugher.
With both teams having an identical 228, the tie breaker goes to the score of the fifth golfer and C/SG’s pair of 59s proved to be the difference.
At Rushford the next day, Claudia Melde earned medalist honors with a 54 and Schroeder added a 57 with Katrina Paulson and Gavin each shooting 59s as the Warriors finsihed with a 229 compared to the Trojans’ 334.
“This was a rough week for us. Our lack of ability to practice the last couple of weeks has reflected in our higher scores,” Snodgrass said. “We finally got in some good practices later in the week and were able to work on the things that were causing us trouble and will continue to prepare for tournament time that starts next week with the conference tournament.”
The team will be in action Monday at Kingsland, followed by the conference tournament at Eastwood in Rochester.
