Gina Meinertz was offered and accepted the position of principal and curriculum director for the Caledonia Elementary Schools.
Meinertz will begin her duties on July 1.
She is currently the lead teacher at Coulee Montessori, adolescent program, a charter school in the La Crosse area, a job she has held for nine years.
“We are excited about the things she will bring to the district and the school,” said superintendent Ben Barton.
The background that Meinertz has in education is a perfect fit for Caledonia.
She will have some scheduling and other responsibilities with the elementary school, things she did as lead teacher at Coulee.
The UW La Crosse graduate, who is originally from Spring Grove, is ready to begin her role.
“I was really excited about the work we’re doing with 21st Century, 1-to-1 ipad initiative, and PLCs (public learning communities),” noted Meinertz. “I think the vision that the school has and the vision that I have match perfectly.”
Meinertz implemented the PLCs at her school in La Crosse.
Her core learning principles, especially in the area of math, are expected to be on display when she takes on her new role.
“My vision is to take learning and make it relate to other subjects by using hands on experience,” said Meinertz.
Meintertz and her husband Nick have a 1-year-old daughter and she is excited to have a job in the area.
“My husband and I had hoped to get into a smaller community,” she said. “We enjoy La Crosse, but wanted to raise our daughter in a place like Caledonia. It is a great community, a great place to be and we are excited. I am looking forward to getting to know the students, parents and community members.”
Meinertz will begin her job on July 1 pending approval of her hire during the June school board meeting.
