‘Column’ is veiled campaign ad

To the Editor:

I have been a regular reader of the Argus for several years while living away and now as a La Crescent resident.  I am dismayed by the recent “column” by Mr. Zmyewski.  His column was clearly campaigning for his re-election.  I have no issue with discussion regarding potential frac sand mining, but I find this ethically troubling that an elected official would use his influence and access to his own benefit as he did.  Also, I would suggest to the editor that if he/she decides to allow this kind of free campaigning veiled as a guest column, that the editor allow the same access to anyone campaigning.
