This year’s Brownsville Lion of the Year award will be given to John “Rockstar” Moore.
The award will be given posthumously as Moore passed away unexpectedly in April.
“Nominations for the award are given at our May meeting,” said current Lion’s president Jeffrey LeJeune. “Votes are cast if more than one person is nominated. Qualifications for nominations are based somewhat on ‘Going above and Beyond’ in Lionism. Perhaps it is spearheading a local project. Perhaps it is a long tenure of dedication to the Club.”
“The Lion of the Year is awarded a ride in a convertible during our parade, which starts at 1:00 pm on Sunday. John’s family will be in the parade on John’s behalf.”
Moore was a three term president of the Brownsville Lions and had just been elected to his third term.
“John often spoke of his love for the Brownsville community, and he strove to make it better,” said LeJeune. “John was adamant about making improvements at the Community Center and the Ball Park.”
