To the Editor:
The above line is quoted from Isaiah 58:7 and it still applies today. The yearly Houston County food shelf summer drive is again being sponsored by ECM-Caledonia Argus from July 14 to July 26. This is a very important event since it is the major food drive for the summer. If everyone gives a donation of food or money, the hungry persons can be fed. Hunger is more numerous in the elderly and child populations and they are two groups that have the least resources available to them to obtain food. There is no school and the children’s free or reduced price meals are not available; the government has reduced the amounts of food stamps and the number of needy people continues to increase.
You and I are the primary community resource that can make a big difference in decreasing hunger. “Whoever is kind to the needy honors God” (Proverbs 14:31) should be the thought of us Christians.
As citizens of Houston County, we have a Christian responsibility to assist and provide for the physical needs of all citizens in Houston County. Hunger is probably the greatest social evil in the U.S.A. and it is an evil that is currently increasing in our great country. In reality, there is no need for this evil to exist. Let it never be said that the citizens of Houston County let hunger become their greatest social evil. We are “One Nation Under God” and we are “One County Under God” with adequate food for all. Support the Argus summer food drive. Give HOPE to many.
There are food collection carts in many of the churches in Caledonia as well as at the Argus office and Quillin’s for your convenience. You may mail, send or deliver money or food to Houston County Food Shelf, 138 East Main St., Caledonia, MN 55921. Make checks payable to the Houston County Food Shelf. God Bless Houston County.
