The Caledonia Rotary Club invites you to “Brewfest” on Saturday, September 6 from 3 to 7 pm.
Brewfest will be held at the Houston County fairgrounds.
“We expect to have over 100 different varities of beers to try,” Caledonia Rotary president, Arien O’Heron, said.
O’Heron is co-coordinator of the event for the Rotary along with Eric Wurm.
“This is our annual fundraiser, one of our biggest fundraisers of the year,” O’Heron said.
The president noted that money raised goes towards a variety of community service projects, Camp Winnebago and several other local projects.
Nationally and internationally, the group contributes to efforts like “End Polio Now” and other international efforts.
“Right now there is only polio left in three nations,” O’Heron said. “So we’re this close.”
Because of the efforts of organizations like Rotary, the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation will offer a two for one dollar match.
“So for every dollar we raise, it will actually turn into three dollars,” O’Heron said of Rotary International’s donations to efforts like eradicating polio.
Tickets for Brewfest are $25 each. The price of the ticket includes a sampling mug that you get to keep and it also includes a pulled pork/beef sandwich.
“Tickets are available from Rotary members, at American Legion Post #191, Eitzen State Bank, Elsie’s Bar and Grill and Quillin’s in Caledonia.
“We just want to encourage people to come out and relax and socialize while sampling domestic and international brews and wines,” said O’Heron.
Some of the featured brewers will be: Pearl Street, Alaskan, Lucid, Oskar Blues, Widmer, Redhook, Odell, Schell’s, Boulevard and Samuel Adams, among others.
“A variety of wine will be available to taste as well,” O’Heron said. “Any of the beers that are on hand will be available for purchase locally at our local establishments.”
La Crescent Wine and Spirits and other distributors will be part of the event as well.
“I know there will be brochures that have the descriptions,” O’Heron added.
“We are also having a Salsa contest,” O’Heron said. “Naomi Fruechte is organizing that.”
“You’ll get to sample a variety of salsas and then vote for your favorite,” O’Heron said.
Rotary is a humanitarian organization. All proceeds from this fundraser will go towards community projects, so stop out and support Caledonia while sampling some local beers or wines and socializing with your friends.
