To the Editor:
If one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” (as stated in the Bible (James 2:16) or similar wording depending on the Bible version you use) and continues, “and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?” Many of us can be the solution to this next step, namely, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.” (Matthew 25:35)
Now you have the opportunity as the Argus food drive is from July 13 to July 24. All donations (food or money) will go to the Houston County Food Shelf at 138 East Main Street, Caledonia (Phone 507-725-3677). For your convenience, you can take your donation to the Food Shelf, Quillin’s, or one of the food baskets/carts in the local churches. We, as a community, as a city, or as a county are only as strong as our weakest link.
We are one nation under God with freedom for all. One of your many freedoms is the freedom to help your neighbor. “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be that person?” (John 3:17)
As many of us know, summer months increase the need for more food for many to include children and elderly persons. We must and do rely on you as our valued only resource. We know that our government is working in the opposite direction by decreasing funds and programs. Please donate food or money (or both). Our beloved Houston County is perhaps the worst it has been in decades. We need you! Please donate and help get rid of the cry, “I am hungry!” God bless us all.
