In the early morning hours of January 10, 2017, The River Station in Brownsville Minn., reported a break in to their convenience store. Houston County Sheriff’s Deputies and La Crescent PD responded and were able to collect evidence at the scene that led them to a local residence in Brownsville.

A search warrant was executed at approximately 9:15 a.m. During the search of the residence and vehicles, merchandise believed to have been removed from the convenience store was discovered. In addition to the alleged stolen property, numerous items of drug paraphernalia were discovered and a small amount of narcotics.

April Renee Nelson, age 34, was arrested and charged in District Court with 3rd and 4th degree burglary, theft, damage to property and fifth degree possession of a controlled substance.

Lucas Gerod Hortsman, age 26, was arrested and charged in District Court with 3rd and 4th degree burglary, theft and criminal damage to property.

Barbara Ann Coleman, age 41, was arrested and charged in District Court with 3rd and 4th degree burglary, theft and criminal damage to property.

Assisting with the search warrant was K-9 Chance and officers from the SE MN Violent Crimes Enforcement Team.

Sheriff Mark Inglett says he is pleased to have three suspects in custody within a few hours of the crime being committed. He notes that while the investigation of these types of crimes doesn’t always fall into place like this one did, he credits the officers’ work and on-scene investigation conducted as the reason this one did.
