Dale “Toby” Deters

Dale “Toby” Deters, 71, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 31, 2017 of natural causes.

He was born on March 14, 1946 to William “Arvid” and Olga (Pederson) Deters in Caledonia, Minn.

Growing up in Caledonia, Dale attended St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran School and graduated from Caledonia High School in 1964, and then enlisted in the Army serving from 1964 until 1971. Dale then attended Winona State College and St. Paul Vocational School graduating as an Electrical Technician. On November 27, 1971 Dale married Toni Marie Spaniol. They moved to Rochester in 1974, where Dale worked for IBM for 25 years and where they also raised their family. They later divorced.

After retirement in 1999, Dale volunteered for 10 years  with the American Red Cross of Rochester traveling to numerous disaster areas starting with Hurricane Katrina. He received numerous acknowledgements and accommodations for his service.

Dale was a family man, loving spending time with his children and grandchildren, sharing their lives with anyone who would listen! He enjoyed many meals and conversation at the Canadian Honker.

He is survived by two sons; Matthew (Geneva) and Joseph (Kayla) both of Rochester and one daughter Kari (Mathew) Busch of Oronoco; nine grandchildren; five brothers; Steve (Melanie) of Atlanta, Ga., Terry (Judi) of Phoenix, Ariz., Thomas (Jan) of Brownsville, Minn., John (Michelle) of Forest Lake, Minn., Mark (Jan) of Apple Valley, Minn.; one sister Ruth (Gary) Masurka of Apple Valley, Minn.; and one Aunt, Henrietta Deters (100) of New Orleans, La.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial  Service will be held at 11 a.m, Monday, August 7, 2017 at Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church at 4520 19th Avenue NW, Rochester, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Caledonia, MN.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Olmsted County or Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church.
