Hailey Hansen is the new middle school/high school English teacher.
“I am most looking forward to meeting and working with the students and staff,” she said. “I am also excited about my first year teaching.”
Hansen student-taught at La Crescent high school and Aquinas Middle School.
“I attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and majored in English,” she said. “I am from Coon Valley, Wis., a small town near La Crosse.”
In her free time, Hansen loves “running, biking, reading and spending time outside with my family.”
Hansen is all in with the Warrior nation.
“I recently moved to Caledonia, so I am excited about learning more about the community and being a Warrior,” she said.
Shannon Kochie is the new third grade teacher at Caledonia area elementary.
She is a graduate of Winona-State with an elementary education degree with a middle school science emphasis.
The La Crescent native is “looking forward to being part of the Caledonia community and staff.”
Shannon and her husband Jon have a four year old daughter, Harper and a one-year-old son, Cooper.
Her hobbies include “being with my family and working on projects at our farm.”
Rebecca Swedberg is familiar with the community.
“The past two years I’ve spent teaching third grade at St. Mary’s in Caledonia,” she said. “I also taught one year at Ridgeway Community school, one year at St. Mary’s school in Owatonna where I taught kindergarten.”
Swedberg will be the new preschool/Title teacher for the public school.
She has a bachelor of arts in elementary education at St. Mary’s University and a Master of Arts educational leadership also from St. Mary’s.
The La Crescent native is married to her husband, Zach, who is a Houston County Sheriff’s deputy. The young couple have two daughters, Aria, age two, and Thea, who is nine months old.
Carissa Gibbons is the new K-12 SPED teacher.
“I am most looking forward to meeting the students and getting to know them this school year,” she said.
Gibbons had a practicum in Caledonia during the spring of 2016 and “student-taught in the La Crosse district during the spring of 2017.”
Gibbons is a Winona State graduate with a major in special education and a minor in child advocacy studies.
“I am from Dodge, Wis., a little town right outside of Arcadia, Wis.,” she said. “I enjoy traveling and seeing different places around the world. I love different cultures. My family loves playing outdoors and enjoying the beauty of the midwest.”
John Wahlstrom was named the new social studies, history, psychology and sociology teacher at Caledonia Area Public Schools. “I’m most looking forward to becoming involved within the school and also the community,” Wahlstrom said.
He previously worked as a substitute teacher at Simley High School and has experience at “various Western, Wis., schools.”
The Hastings, Minn., native is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in Broad Field Social Studies with an emphasis in psychology. Wahlstrom likes to “spend my free time in the woods or fishing.”
Wahlstrom is working with the football program on strength and conditioning.
“I also look forward to becoming involved in different sports programs and other extra curricular activities,” he said. “I was happy to be taken in immediately to help coach football through strength and conditioning.”
