The Caledonia Warrior girls soccer team opened their season on the road against Winona Public.
The girls fell, 4-0, on the fast track, turf field.
“It was a tough test for our first game,” said head coach Chris Jandt. “Winona already had two games under their belt. Winona came fast and quick while piling up 24 shots in the game.
Winona’s team has nice speed and it was too much for the Warriors to match on their back line.
“We had a hard time moving the ball in the first half which allowed Winona to pin us,” Jandt continued. “Winona had a lot of good opportunities and converted, including a penalty kick.”
Caledonia had a few opportunities set up by freshman Eliza Welscher, but could not finish.
Caledonia went into the half down four, and came back stronger after the break. “The passing and ball movement improved,” Jandt said. “The second half had very few opportunities for both teams and was a battle in the midfield.”
The coach is glad to have the first game out of the way.
“It was nice to get a game under our belt and see what we need to work on,” Jandt said. “We have a good group of ladies and its going to be a good year.”
