Helen D. Schroeder

Helen D. Schroeder, age 97, of Caledonia, Minn., died Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Gundersen – Tweeten Healthcare in Spring Grove.

Helen was born August 19, 1920 in Mayville Township, Houston County, Minn., to Arthur and Lydia (Tessmer) Lutz. She attended country schools and then lived in Brownsville for a short time taking care of an aunt. She then worked for a farm family and that is where she met her future husband. On October 18, 1941 she married Arnold Schroeder at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Caledonia. They lived and farmed on the Schroeder family farm in rural Caledonia. Helen had also worked at Waltz Cleaners and Winnebago Software. They retired from farming in 1982, and in 1999 moved into Caledonia. Arnold passed away May 4, 2001. In May, 2015 she moved to Tweeten Healthcare in Spring Grove.

Helen was an active member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where she also belonged to Ladies Aid. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and playing cards.

Helen is survived by three children Lorraine Peterson of Caledonia, David (Anna) Schroeder of Michigan, and Gordon (Cherie) Schroeder of Caledonia; eight grandchildren Jolene Johnson, David, Jr. (Kate) Schroeder, Angie (Pat) Reis, Mark Corcoran, Krista (Darrel) Klug, Malissa (Scott) Gregerson, Shelley (Freddie) Stendel, and Cherise (Leland) Laumb; eighteen great grandchildren; a sister Fern Myhre of Racine, Wis.; son-in-law David Corcoran of Hokah; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; a daughter Darlene Corcoran; a grandson Kurt Corcoran; two sisters and their husbands Ruth and Alfred Meyer, and Betty and Carl Utke; and brother-in-law Warren Myhre.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, September 9 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Eitzen, Minn., with Rev. Todd Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday prior to services at the church. Memorials are preferred to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
