Tuesday fire destroys garage |
|
The Caledonia Fire Department was called to the Raymond Hagen residence
at 323 South Winnebago Street Tuesday afternoon to battle a garage
fire. When firefighters arrived, the two-stall garage was engulfed in
flames. The garage, the contents of the building, which included tools
and one vehicle, were all considered a total loss. The firemen was able
to contain the fire to the garage, and it appeared as if the Hagen's
house, located less than 25 feet to the north of the garage, was
damaged. (Photo by Charlie Warner)

August floods dominate 2007 news |
|
The 1,000-year event, which dumped over 18 inches of rain on some
portions of Houston County in less than 24 hours on August 18 and 19,
claimed the lives of seven persons and caused tens of millions of
dollars in damage in Houston, Fillmore, and Winona counties. It was the
worst natural disaster to hit the county in its 150-year history. It
was certainly the number-one news story in the Caledonia Argus in 2007.
For a look at the top 10 news stories of 2007, view this week's slide show.

floods. The powerful floodwaters pulled trees up by the roots and
deposited them in the parking lot. (Photo by Reed Welch)

Let it snow, let it snow... |
|
Folks longing for an old-fashioned winter are certainly getting
their wish this year. After receiving about six inches of snow and ice
a month ago, the Caledonia area was hit with another foot of snow just
in time to make Christmas travel plans a little tricky. Southeast
Minnesota received another couple of inches this past weekend to bring
the season total to around 20 inches. Photo by Charlie Warner
