During the past decade a number of businesses have left the downtown Caledonia district to relocate along the Highway 44/76 business corridor. The reasons for the business relocations are numerous…larger lots to construct new buildings, more room for larger parking lots, more visibility and potential customer traffic because of the highway.

Personnel issues, testing discussed by school board
The school board addressed several personnel matters at their regular meeting on Monday, April 21.
Tenure was granted to full time teachers Kay Dahle, and Carrie Erickson as well as to part-time teacher Kimberly Kranz.

Mock crash held at high school

mock_crash.jpgThe Caledonia Area High School SADD Chapter sponsored a mock crash Thursday morning in the pouring rain. The high school student body witnessed the results of a two-vehicle alcohol-related accident invovling six high school students following the prom. In the photo above Kelsey Connor, at left, and Jenna Schmitz react when they realize Ryan Goetzinger just died of injuries suffered in the accident. At right, Bobbi Jo Schuttemeier and Elyse Welscher displayed varying emotions, as they sat in a driving rain.

Town meeting April 30 on underage drinking
The Houston County Drug Free Coalition is holding a town meeting on underage drinking on Wednesday, April 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Caledonia High School.  Learn more about the effects of drinking on the teenage brain, the Minnesota Student Survey results as reported by Houston County students, and how parents and the community can influence underage drinkers.

Zoning applications approved by council
The Caledonia City Council gave its approval of six different zoning applications during the April 14 meeting. The zoning applications ranged from a new sign for the Caledonia Area Chamber of Commerce’s building to a 40 by 80-foot addition for Sno Pac Foods.

Caledonia junior/senior prom Saturday

Next to graduation, the junior/senior prom is one of the most anticipated events observed each spring. The Caledonia junior//senior prom will be held this Saturday, Apr. 26. This year’s theme is “Escape to Vegas.” The grand march will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the high school. Doors open at 4 p.m. for picture taking. Wake up call by the band
Tattered and frayed, the once proud band uniforms of the Caledonia Area High School Marching Band, now some 20 plus years old, are in need of replacing.
