“We’ve got the site correction portion of the project done. We’ve excavated and filled more than 20,000 cubic yards to get to this point. Now that we have all the sand fill in place, wet weather won’t impact us the way it has. We should be out of the basement by the beginning of next week and should start setting the 45-foot tall steel columns. That will be a big step for us,” explained John Pristash of Knutson Construction to the Houston County Board during the Aug. 3 meeting.

“We haven’t heard of any new cases, which is good news. We are in constant contact with the state (Department of Disease Control) and if there were any new cases, they would inform us right away,” said Houston County Public Health Director Deb Rock.
The “news cases” Rock was referring to are encephalitis cases in the county.
Last week it was reported a six-year-old Caledonia boy was this year’s first confirmed case of La Crosse encephalitis in the region.
The mosquito-borne disease was reported July 11, and the boy was hospitalized in Rochester for more than two weeks.
For the complete story, see the August 11 issue of the Argus.
