That’s the first verse of a very popular rock and roll song from the late 1960s, written by Wilson Picket. For many, the song Mustang Sally conjures up memories of hanging out at the drive-in, cruising around with your buddies or your “steady,” and if you were really lucky, sitting behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang.

City looking at ways of complying with state conservation program
|
The City of Caledonia is currently working with Tri-County Electric Co-op (TEC) in developing a plan that will bring the city into compliance with a state-mandated program known as the Conservation Improvement Program (CIP). During the Nov. 9 and 23 council meetings, Councilman Tom Murphy brought the issue to the floor.

Official groundbreaking ceremony held
|
|
The Houston County Historical Society held its official groundbreaking ceremony for a large addition to the county museum last Saturday during the Winter Wonderland celebration in Caledonia. The Historical Society has been raising money and working on plans for the 10,600 square foot addition to the facility, located adjacent to the Houston County Fairgrounds, for more than a dozen years. County receives grant for rural siren system
|
|
Houston County residents may have a more reliable warning system in place alerting them of natural or man-made disasters. Emergency Services Coordinator Kurt Kuhlers informed the Houston County Board his department recently received a $226,210 grant from the federal government that will enable the county to provide a warning system to persons living in some of the more secluded areas.

County’s H1N1 clinic scheduled for December 19
|
|
Houston County Public Health staff have been working diligently to reach those in identified priority groups as the H1N1 vaccine supply becomes available to them. The clinics so far have been targeting pregnant women, parents and those providing care to infants under six months of age, and young children with chronic medical conditions. Public Health staff have partnered with schools within Houston County to provided H1N1 vaccination clinics to kindergarteners.

Steve Guberud stands in the midst of his hobby-turned-small business. Around 500 Christmas trees, from tiny transplants to 14-foot tall specimens surround him. He’s just been asked how this all began.
