The camaraderie of firefighters; Area fire departments donate used turnout gear to Mexico
Firefighters worldwide share a number of traits, the most prominent being the desire to help their neighbors when disaster strikes. That trait knows no nationality nor borders. Often departments and agencies in the U.S. donate used equipment to other countries where the members have access to fewer resources. Sometimes the equipment can no longer be used in the U.S. due to new safety standards or it may be that the equipment is simply being replaced and the department wants it to contribute to others.

Klankowski donates Quilt of Valor
Caledonia quilter Doris Klankowski and her husband Gordon displayed this patriotic quilt Doris recently completed, which was presented to Houston County Veterans Service Officer Rob Gross for the Quilts of Valor program. Quilts of Valor is a nation-wide program, started in 2003, where wounded soldiers are given hand-made quilts that provide comfort, love and healing prayers plus pay tribute to the combat wounded. Everyone who attended the Veterans Day dinner in Caledonia on Nov. 11 signed the quilt. Doris has been involved in the Quilts of Valor program for some time and has finished quilts that have been sent to Ramstein, Germany, where many of the U.S. troops wounded in the two wars being waged in the Middle East are evacuated to. “This is just our way of thanking those brave men and women who are fighting for our freedom,” Doris noted. More than one way to rake leaves
Isiah Reinhart decided to try using a snow shovel to tackle the chore of clearing the leaves of this yard, while his sister Adrianna opted for the more conventional rake. The two raked the yard of their great grandmother Rosie Laumb at 302 West Vista in Caledonia Tuesday afternoon, and had quite a pile of leaves pushed out onto the boulevard. They are the children of Dan and Michelle Reinhart.
