Making way for justice center

Generation X, Inc. of Rushford wasted little time razing the three houses and county garage that needed to be removed for the Houston County Justice Center, which will be located just east of the existing Houston County Court House. The four structures will be removed this fall, along with the necessary trees and the area will be made ready for an April 15 start. The house above was located at 304 South Marshall. School will seek temporary replacement for principal

At Monday’s meeting of the ISD #299 board, Superintendent Bruce Thomas told directors that he had recently seen Elementary Principal Connie Hesse, who has been on medical leave since the beginning of the school year.

Fall brings additional hazards to motorists, be patient, be safe
|
|
With the advent of fall comes later sunrises and earlier sunsets, which means we are spending more time driving in the dark. Add to that large farm implements on the roads, foggy and/or misty mornings and evenings and increased deer activity. This all makes for additional hazards on our morning and evening commutes to work, school and other activities.

State establishes a help line for those suffering flu-like symptoms
|
|
Minnesotans suffering flu-like symptoms have a help line to call day or night for medical advice. Last week the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) unveiled the Minnesota FluLine, a free, statewide help line at 1-866-259-4655 where those feeling sick can get referrals, talk to a nurse, even get a prescription over the phone.

New Albin reaches fundraising goal

A sign hangs in the front window of the New Albin Savings Bank showing that the city’s fundraising goal has been reached. After the news that no property taxes could be collected by the city this year due to clerical errors, New Albin pulled together to raise the money on its own.

Local police department will step up patrols this Halloween weekend
|
|
Caledonia police will go trick-or-treating for impaired drivers this Halloween weekend through increased DWI patrols. The holiday is a serious concern for officers as Halloween falls on a Saturday — which will likely cause in influx of revelers. The Caledonia Police Department is urging Halloween partiers to have a plan for a safe and sober ride to keep Caledonia roads safe.
