The new Spring Grove Cinema, which opened for business this past weekend, held a media day last week. Area journalists were given a VIP tour of the new, high-tech theater which Spring Grove Communications built. The project started in September of 2008 and was completed last week. Spring Grove Cinema is the only digital, surround-sound movie theater in the area. They will be open for business Friday through Monday evenings, showing first-run films. A new middle/high school principal was hired at the May 18 meeting of the ISD #299 school board.Current principal Ronald Helmers will be retiring at the end of the school year.

The board voted unanimously to hire Paul DeMorett, who currently serves as K-12 principal at Tower-Soudan School in St. Louis County (near Vermilion Lake). DeMoret’s contract is for the 2009-2010 school year at a salary of $85,000.

The First Annual Caledonia Ambulance Service fundraiser was a huge success. About 800 persons turned out for the chicken-Q and over 100 persons participated in the run/walk. According to Ambulance Director Mike Tornstrom, approximately $5,000 was raised during Sunday’s event and over $10,000 has been brought in through donations to help the local ambulance service.
