“Although I’ve been happy with what has been brought forward in the past, I feel we need to handle all hires within the city in the same manner. All departments need to be treated the same,” Caledonia City Councilman Paul Fisch stated during the Feb. 25 council meeting.

School board approves coaching hires |
The Caledonia school board offered Mrs. Jana Dittmer a part-time middle/high school speech and language teacher position for the remainder of the school year.
Dittmer, who previously retired from a similar position with the district, was asked to come back to fill in for a teacher from the Spring Grove district who needed to step away from the program due to health issues.

School board reviews District #299’s goals |
“If we wrote goals that we could totally achieve they wouldn’t be that ambitious of goals,” said Caledonia Superintendent Mike Moriarty. “We’re making some progress but there is room to improve.”
Every few years, the school board reviews their goal statements in an effort to analyze where they’re going, what they hope to achieve and how their doing in terms of getting there. The board reviewed their goal statement Monday night.

2008-09 calendar set for Caledonia Public Schools |
The school board approved the school calendar for the upcoming 2008-09 school year.
Highlights of the calendar include the first day of school being

County board will review joint powers radio agreement |
The Houston County Board decided to have the County Attorney’s office review the proposed joint powers agreement for the Southeast Minnesota Regional Radio Board before ratifying it. The county board took another in-depth look at the planning process needed to create an area-wide communications system for Southeast Minnesota.

The Houston County Wild Turkey Federation will celebrate 25 years of improving and promoting the wild turkey flock in the county on Friday, March 7 at its banquet at MaCalGrove.
Proceeds from the annual banquet have contributed more money to the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) than any other chapter in Minnesota. Carl Brown, chief operating officer of the organization; Dave Mahlke, NWTF director; and Eric Linden NWTF regional director will attend.
