frankgerardy_web.jpgFrank J Gerardy, 80, of Caledonia, died unexpectedly Thurs, March 11, 2010 at Roseview Court, Caledonia Care and Rehab in Caledonia. He was born October 15, 1929 in Grand Prairie Township, Nobles County, Minn. to Leo and Mary (Bauer) Gerardy. Frank farmed in the Caledonia area and sold seed corn and feed to area farmers. After he left the farm he worked at Northern Engraving in La Crosse until his retirement.

He is survived by his special friend, Shirley Inglett of Caledonia; his sons, Mike (Julie) Gerardy of Caledonia and Pat (special friend Val) Gerardy of La Crosse, Shirley’s sons, Mark (Lisa) Inglett of La Crescent and Brian (Sally) Inglett of Houston, Minn. and ten grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be at 10:30 am, Monday, March 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday at Holy Family Hall, next to St. Mary’s Church, where there will be a rosary at 2 pm and a prayer service at 4 pm. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

skreeshirley.jpgShirley Dolores Skree, 81, died on Wednesday March 3, 2010 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Tom Stilin.

Shirley was born July 31, 1928 in the Caledonia Hospital to Alfred and Alice (Nerison) Carlson. She was raised on Fort Ridgley in rural Houston and attended country school there. Shirley was confirmed at the Bethany Evangelical Free Church in 1941 and graduated from Houston High School in 1945. At this time her family moved down to a farm in Badger Valley where she became acquainted with her next door neighbor, Darrel A. Skree. The young couple was married Sept. 23, 1950 at the Houston Lutheran Church by Rev. O. A. Anderson.

After high school and during her early years of marriage Shirley worked at the Houston-Money Creek Co-op Creamery, Thomas A. Flynn’s Law Office and Ace Telephone. She was a member of the Badger Homemakers and the Arnet-Sheldon Legion Post 423 Auxiliary. As a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church she was long time member of the ALCW, WELCA, Circle, and also the Craft Club for many years.

After Darrel’s death she continued to live on the farm with her son, Jim, until suffering a stroke in April of 2008, after which she was cared for by Deb, Tom and the girls at their home in Houston.

Shirley is survived by her five children: Jeffrey Skree, Mesa, Ariz.; James Skree, Houston; Douglas Skree, Tempe, Ariz.; Debra (Thomas) Stilin, Houston; and Gary (Marion) Skree, Rushford, Minn.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister Lylah Dragvold, Spring Grove, Minn.; and three sisters-in-law: Darlene Carlson, Winona, Minn.; JoAnn Carlson, Houston; and Genevieve Skree, La Crescent, Minn.; and a brother-in-law Gifford (Marjorie) Skree, Houston.

She was preceded in death by her husband Darrel; three brothers Kenneth, John and Leonard Carlson; three brothers-in-law Fergus Happel, Gerald Dragvold and Robert Skree; and a nephew, Dennis Happel.

Funeral Services were at 11 a.m., Monday, March 8, 2010 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Reverend Lane Zaffke officiating. Visitation was from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday at Hoff Funeral Home – Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Monday at church. Burial was in Stone Church Cemetery.

trisch.jpg    Kathe D. Trisch, 82, of Caledonia, Minn., passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Caledonia Care and Rehab, after a long battle with Dementia.   

    Kathe was born with the birth name of Audrey Terhune Daniels on May 24, 1927, in Manhattan, N.Y., to Albert and Magdalena (Holzschuh) Daniels. She began dancing in Off Broadway shows at the age of eight and continued dancing into her early teen years. At the age of 16, she moved to La Crosse, Wis., and began working at the La Crosse Tribune until 1952. On January 7, 1952, she married James “Jim” Trisch at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia. They resided in Caledonia where Kathe worked in the Treasurer’s Office at the Houston County Court House for many years before becoming a homemaker. She had her name legally changed to Kathe Daniels Trisch in 1961. She loved entertaining guests, sewing, and dearly loved dogs, especially her special dog “Molly.” Kathe and Jim enjoyed traveling together on various trips. Jim preceded her in death on December 29, 1992. Kathe was known for her spontaneous shopping trips; she loved to shop and buy things, then give her purchases away to people she thought would enjoy them. She will be remembered as a very generous and regal lady.   

    Survivors include many close friends.  

     In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her dog, Molly; and a special friend, Mary Bouch.  

     Funeral services were Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 419 E. Grove St., Caledonia. Rev. Steven E. Meyer officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.  Friends called at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.  Memorials may be given to the Caledonia Public Library, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia, or the Houston County Historical Society.

Helen Marie Zard, 85, of Caledonia, Minn., and formerly of Rochester, Minn., died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Caledonia Care and Rehab.

Helen was born July 11, 1924, in Tripp, S.D., to Jacob and Emelie (Zeitner) Dobler. On Aug. 5, 1924, she was baptized at the American Lutheran Church in Tripp, S.D. Helen attended elementary and high school in Tripp graduating from Tripp High School in 1942. After graduation, she attended Mankato Business College in Mankato, Minn., for one year. In 1943, Helen moved to Omaha, Neb., where she was employed as a secretary for Martin Aviation Company until the end of World War II in 1945. She then moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., where she became the personal secretary for Mr. Kahler, the manager of the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, working there until 1947. In June of 1947, Helen married Donald Stuart Zard at the American Lutheran Church in Tripp, S.D. They lived in Vermillion, S.D.; Watertown, S.D.; Bismarck, N.D.; and Mobridge, S.D. until making their home in Rochester, Minn., in 1961. Helen was employed as a secretary for the public high schools for 21 years, retiring in 1987. On Dec. 7, 1996, Donald preceded her in death. Helen was an active member of her church and was an active volunteer.

Survivors include three sons, Steve (Mary) Zard, New Prague, Minn.; Mark (Joanne) Zard, Caledonia; and Clark (Kathy) Zard, Nisswa, Minn.; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and one sister Trudy Kinnard, Billings, Mont.

In addition to her husband Helen was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Memorial services will be Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church,  Rochester. Rev. Kathie and Rev. Peter Nycklemoe will officiate. Entombment will be in Mount Olive Columbarium. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Alice “Kathleen” Brickman, 91, formerly of Brownsville and Caledonia, Minn., died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse, Wis. after a long battle with dementia.

Kathleen was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Lytton, Iowa, to John and Elsie (Mayo) Titus. She graduated from Lytton Consolidated Schools in 1939. On Oct. 12, 1940 she married Henry Wayne Traum in Spirit Lake, Iowa. They had two daughters and later divorced. Kathleen married Roy Peeper in 1955, and they farmed outside of Arlington, Iowa. Kathleen and Roy traveled for 17 years throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. After Roy’s death in 1996, Kathleen moved to Brownsville, Minn., where she lived in senior housing. At the age of 80, she met and married Melvin Brickman and they shared six wonderful years together. In Sept. of 2005, Kathleen moved to Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice (Dennis) Carter, Liberty, Mo., and Cheryl (Jerry) Halsted, La Crosse; two step-daughters, Paula Peeper, Traer, Iowa, and Rosemary Ott, Oelwein, Iowa.; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Dorothy Whittenbaugh, Elgin Iowa; and nieces and nephews, including a special nephew and his wife, John and Bonnie Guthrie of Sioux Falls, S.D.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Roy Peeper and Melvin Brickman; her step-son Dow “Buster” Peeper; and two sisters, Maxine Cleland and Audrey Guthrie.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Church, Brownsville. Pastor Brian Cuda and Chaplain Linda Kuehl will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be on Thursday, March 4, at 11 a.m. in Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington, Iowa.

p_heiderscheit.jpgPhyllis Marie Heiderscheit, age 82, died surrounded by family on Saturday Feb. 20, 2010 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. 

Phyllis was born on Aug. 30, 1927 to Ignatius and Julia (Sheehan) Imhoff. She was a life-long member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She graduated in 1944 from New Albin High School. She then worked in Rochester, Minn. and Dubuque, Iowa.

She married Leonard Heiderscheit on June 14, 1948. They shared over sixty-one years together and were blessed with nine children.

She is survived by her husband and their children: Michael (Melinda), Pryor, Okla.; Richard (Bebe), La Crescent, Minn.; Mary (Alan) Orthaus, Lake City, Minn.; Julie (Gene) Schultz, Lansing, Iowa; Mark (Kathleen), New Albin; Terry (Kristin), Rochester, Minn.; Chris (Patty), Holmen, Wis.; Tim (Jill), New Albin; and Pat (Janet), Lansing; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Patricia Imhoff Curran.

She was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Mark, brother-in-law Wilbur Mark and her brothers and their wives, Vincent and Joyce, Edmund and Mickey, Robert and LuAnn, Lawrence and Rita, and James as well as two infant siblings Francis and Catherine.

The funeral mass will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 25 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Albin. Fr. Daniel Knipper will officiate at the service. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the New Albin Community Center. Interment will be at the church cemetery.

Doris Evelyn Bisping, age 86,  died on February 12, 2010 at Caledonia Care and Rehab shortly after being diagnosed with a brain tumor with her family at her side.

She was born April 24, 1923 in Spring Grove to Ulrich and Clara Munkel.  She spent her childhood in the Spring Grove area.  She attended high school in both the Caledonia and Spring Grove schools.

Doris married Martin Edward Bisping on June 4, 1941 at St Luke’s United Church of Christ in Eitzen, Minn. six days following her graduation from high school. She was a homemaker, worked out of the home as a cook, at a bank, a factory and in a veterinarian office. Doris was a member of St Luke’s United Church of Christ.

She is survived by seven children:  Gary (Ann) Bisping, Portage, Wis.; Gale (Nickie) Bisping, Rochester, Minn.; Greta (Bob) Meek, Rochester; Eric (Diane) Bisping, Onalaska, Wis.; Mark Bisping, Rochester; Kathryn (Butch) Spate, Selma, Calif.; Doreen “Dee Dee” (Jeff) Slifka, Rochester; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and her sister Ruth Diersen.

She was preceded in death by her husband Martin in 2005, two brothers, a sister and three daughter in-laws.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Eitzen.Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Floyd Everett Austin, 93, died Wed., Feb. 3, 2010 at Caledonia Care and Rehab, Caledonia, Minn. Doris Gladys (Pederson) Austin died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at Caledonia Care and Rehab, Caledonia.

Floyd was born May 27, 1916 at the family farm in Newburg, rural Mabel, Minn. to Christ and Florence (Olin) Austin. Doris was born Dec. 19, 1921 at the family farm in Amherst Twp., rural Lanesboro, Minn. to Emil and Sophia (Frogner) Pederson. Floyd and Doris were united in marriage on Nov. 15, 1941. They farmed the Austin family farm at Newburg for 38 years. After retiring they moved to Spring Grove, Minn. and had resided the last eight years at Caledonia Care & Rehab in Caledonia. In November, 2009 they celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Floyd and Doris are survived by their son Everett (Marilyn) Austin, Caledonia; daughter Darlene (George) Bradner, Phoenix, Ariz.; three granddaughters and seven great-granchildren; and a sister-in-law Jean Pederson, Kenyon, Minn. Floyd was preceded in death by an infant brother Grant, and brother Gerald Austin, Rockford, Ill. Doris was preceded in death by her brothers Elmer Nelson, Mabel; Perry, Henry and Carl Pederson, Harmony, Minn.; Alvin Pederson, Kenyon; and sisters Evelyn Gleisner, Harmony, and Josephine Austin, Rockford.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 9, 5 to 7 p.m. at Caledonia Care & Rehab, Caledonia.

 Funeral services will be Wed., Feb. 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Caledonia United Methodist Church, Caledonia with visitation at 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be at the Newburg UMC Cemetery, Newburg, Minn.
