Roger Jergenson

Roger E. “Jergy” Jergenson, 79, of La Crosse and formerly of Houston,
Minn., died on Friday, May 29, 2009 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical
Center.
He was born on Feb. 10, 1930 in Houston, Minn. to Burden and Anna
(Johnson) Jergenson. He graduated from Houston High School in 1948 and
went to work at Trane Company, where he worked for 43 1/2 years. He was
a member of Lodge 21 and retired in 1992. Roger married Celia Palmquist
on June 10, 1949 and they had six children. They later divorced. He
married Winnifred Miller on Nov. 12, 1982. Roger was a part time farmer
for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife Winnie, six children: Dan (Lorrie), Terry
(Annette), Tim (Sherry), Mary (Harold) Naber, Kathy Young, and Mike
(Debbie); five step-children: Laurie Weber, Kathy Riney, Barbara (Mark)
Sloggy, Linda (Tim Snyder) Blakeley, and Dan Miller; 20 grandchildren,
14 step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and his mother Anna.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Milton.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at Cross
of Christ Lutheran Church, Houston, Minn. Pastor Lane Zaffke will
officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in the Stone Church
Cemetery, Houston. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home
of La Crescent on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and at the church on
Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Virginia Muenkel

Virginia
Christine Muenkel, 85, of Caledonia died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at
Franciscan Skemp Medical Center surrounded by her family after a long,
courageous battle with cancer.
She was born March 20, 1924 in Huntsville, Ala. to Clarence and
Elizabeth (Durham) Brewer. She attended the University of Alabama and
received her Registered Nursing Degree in 1947. In 1950 she moved to
Caledonia and she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1976
from Viterbo College, La Crosse. She married Hugo Muenkel July 19, 1951
in Decorah, Iowa and he preceded her in death on October 14, 1970.
Virginia worked at the Caledonia Hospital, Lutheran Hospital, Houston
County Public Health Nursing, La Crescent Healthcare Center and Bethany
St. Joe’s during her nursing career. She traveled to Belize in 1996 and
helped with their heath care for numerous years. She was a very active
and dedicated volunteer in her community, United Methodist Church and
was Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star and served on the Board of
Directors for Camp Winnebago.
She is survived by three sons:Bruce (Dianne) Muenkel, and Curtis
Muenkel both of Caledonia; Robert Muenkel, Burnsville, Minn.; a
daughter, Gail (James) Good, Dorchester; five grandchildren; a sister,
Clara (Lewis) Ebner, Waukon, Iowa; and a brother Jerry “Pete” (Dorothy)
Brewer, Huntsville, Ala. In addition to her husband, she was
preceded in death by a sister, Iona.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 3, at United
Methodist Church, Caledonia. Rev. Mark Bengtson will officiate and
interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call
from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church and one hour prior to the
service on Wednesday at the church. McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia
is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ed Drogemuller

Edgar Charles Drogemuller, 83, died Wednesday, May 20, at Marias Medical Center in Shelby, Mont. of cardiac arrest.
Ed was born Dec. 13, 1925 in Marble Rock, Iowa to John and Anna
(Mackaben) Drogemuller and was raised in Cherry Grove, Minn. Ed served
in the US Navy from 1946-1948 serving on the USS Pasadena during WWII.
He attended Luther College for two years and went on to graduate with a
degree in Agriculture from the University Wisconsin River Falls in
1950. On June 13, 1951 he married Judith Nord in Red Wing, Minn.
Ed was a US Department of Agriculture district soil conservationist for
the Soil Conservation Service from 1951-1981, During that time he
served an internship as a soil conservationist in Illinois in 1951,
worked for Pope County out of Glenwood, Minn. from 1952-1954, worked
Sibley County out of Gaylord, Minn. from 1955-1969, and worked for
Houston County out of Caledonia, Minn. from 1969-1981. After his
retirement from the Soil Conservation Service in 1981, he appraised
land until 1999. He also was an Ag Ed substitute teacher.
In Gaylord he was a member of the Lutheran Church Council and City Fair
Board. He also helped with gun safety. In Caledonia he was involved
with the VFW and American Legion and was an Eitzen Lion. In Conrad,
Mont. he was involved with planning and executing Montana Range Days
while Conrad was the host. In addition he has been a contest judge for
FFA competitions.
Survivors include a daughter, Annie (Roger) Schlosser, Conrad, Mont.;
sons, Wayne Drogemuller, Burlington, Kan,; Preston Drogemuller,
Lakeville, Minn.; Lee Drogemuller, Layfatte, Minn.; and Peter (Julie)
Drogemuller, Chippewa Falls, Wis.; a brother, Marcus Drogemuller,
Chatfield, Minn.; and 11 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Judith Drogemuller on July 30, 1999.
Memorial services will be held Thurs, May 28, at 11 a.m. at
Pondera Valley Lutheran Church. A memorial service in Caledonia, Minn.
will be at a later date.

Edward Haryn

Edward E. Haryn, 57, of Caledonia, Minn., died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at his home.
He was born Sept. 13, 1951, in Sacramento, Calif., to Edward and Avyce
(Pernu) Haryn. Edward lived in the Twin Cities area for many years
until he moved to Caledonia five years ago.
Survivors include his girlfriend, Wendy Pittman of Caledonia; three
step-children, Shane, Amy, and Todd; numerous grandchildren; and one
brother, Arnie Haryn of Coral Gables, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private memorial service will be Friday, May 22, 2009, at 5 p.m. at
Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Caledonia. Chaplain Sue Fletcher
will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4
p.m. until the time of service.

Hilda Kruse

Hilda Anna Kruse, 96, of Eitzen, Minn., died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at Caledonia Care and Rehab.
She was born Jan. 30, 1913, on Jefferson Ridge to Ben and Clara
(Neuman) Pohlman. Hilda was a 1933 graduate of Caledonia High School.
On April 28, 1937, she married Theodor “Ted” Kruse and he preceded her
in death on June 27, 2005. She and her husband farmed in Winnebago
Township until 1976, when they built their home in Eitzen. Hilda worked
at the Argus Co. and at Control Data, both in Spring Grove, Minn., and
also at the Button Factory in Lansing, Iowa. Hilda belonged to the
Eitzen Homemakers Club and was also a member of the Eitzen 80s Ladies.
Survivors include three sons, Dale (Eileen) Kruse, Pueblo West, Colo.;
Glenn (Rena) Kruse, Eitzen, Minn.; and Duane (Gail) Kruse, Tallahasse,
Fla.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two
step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Skadsem, Anchorage,
Alaska; and Esther Diersen, Eitzen, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Alma
Kruse, Caledonia, Minn.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers
and their wives, Melvin (Lizbeth) Pohlman and Versall (Clara) Pohlman
and three brothers-in-law, Art Kruse, Albert Diersen, and Rueben
Skadsem.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s
Ev. Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev. Tom Schultz will
officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia.
Friends may call at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church on Sunday from 4
p.m. until 7 p.m. and also on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of
service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Carroll Johnson

Carroll E. Johnson, 86, of Caledonia, Minn., died Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Caledonia Care and Rehab.
Carroll was born March 25, 1923, in Sheldon Township, Houston County,
Minn., to Thomas and Anna (Lundall) Johnson. He was a veteran of the
United States Navy, having served during WWII. Carroll married Mary E.
Haugstad and they later divorced. On April 15, 1964, he married Frances
Poppe and she preceded him in death on April 22, 1989. Carroll owned
and operated Johnson’s Feed and Western Store in Caledonia for many
years. He also enjoyed raising horses and a variety of birds.
Survivors include seven children: David (Barb) Johnson, Judy (Steve)
Anderson, Butch (Pat) Johnson, JayNe Johnson, Carol Hood, Bonnie (Joe)
Tollefson, and Karen Meiners; 12 grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Jorgenson; one brother, Tommy
(Evelyn) Johnson III; and his first wife, Mary Herber.
In addition to his second wife, Carroll was preceded in death by his
parents and his siblings, Jelmer, Gilbert, Norris, Arden, Leonard,
Thomas II, Joe, Josephine, Mabel, and Betsy.
Memorial services will be Monday, May 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel
Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev. Steven E. Meyer will officiate. Burial
will be in Evergreen Cemetery with military honors by the
Loveless-Eikens American Legion Post 191 of Caledonia. Friends may call
at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu
of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Lawrence "Larry" Schulze

Lawrence
L. “Larry” Schulze, 84, of La Crosse, Wis., died Thursday, April 30,
2009, with his family by his side at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center,
La Crosse.
He was born March 22, 1925 in Caledonia, Minn. to Alvin and Emma
(Ranzenberger) Schulze. Larry was raised in Caledonia on a farm. On
Feb. 5, 1947, he married Betty Lou Klinski in Caledonia. They lived in
Caledonia for several years before moving to La Crosse in the late
1960s. Larry was employed by Trane Co. in La Crosse for 58 years.
Larry is survived by his wife, Betty of La Crosse; three children: a
daughter, Mary Lou Schulze, Caledonia; and two sons, Gary (Peggy)
Schulze, Onalaska and Terry (Carol) Schulze, La Crosse; six
grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister Gladys Vetsch,
Winona, Minn.; a brother Gerald (Kathy) Schulze, Oak Creek, Wis; and a
brother-in-law, Lee Denstad, Caledonia.
Funeral services will be Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 2 p.m. at
Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, 4239 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse.
Chaplain Joan A. Cornejo will officiate. Innichement will be in St.
Francis of Assisi Mausoleum at Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse, at a later
date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from noon until
the time of service.

Paul Breeser

Paul W. Breeser, age 89, of New Albin, Iowa, died on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa.
Paul was born on Dec. 10, 1919, at home in Union City Township, Iowa,
the oldest of three children to William and Alvina (Hauer) Breeser.
Paul attended a country school in rural New Albin before going to work
on the family farm along side his father. Paul also helped out on the
neighboring farms in times of need. He then worked at the Hosch Foundry
in New Albin and later at the Button Factory in Lansing, Iowa, as well
as other odd jobs along the way.
On March 10, 1960, Paul married Esther (Meyer) Neumann and he then
became a loving step-father to two girls. In November of 2000, Esther
preceded Paul in death.
Survivors include one sister, Hilda Walters, La Crosse, Wis.; one
step-daughter, Katherine Nesheim, Waukon, Iowa; three
step-grandsons; one step-granddaughter; one brother-in-law, Harold
(Eunice) Meyer, Eitzen, Minn.; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Meyer, New
Albin.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel
Breeser; one step-daughter, Sharon Kottman; two sons-in-law, Gary
Kottman and Dennis Nesheim; and two brothers-in-law, Albert Walters and
Fremont Meyer.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St.
Peter’s Christian Community Church, New Albin, Iowa. Rev. Dr. William
Reese Th.D. will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Memorial
Cemetery. Friends may call at the New Albin Community Center on Friday
from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m.
until the time of service.
