William E. “Bill” Bubbers, 87, of Caledonia, Minn., died Monday, April 13, 2009, at Caledonia Care & Rehab.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 16, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St.
John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Burial will be in Evergreen
Cemetery. Friends may call at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home,
Caledonia, on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on
Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Pauline Hemmer

Pauline G. Hemmer, age 90, formerly of Caledonia, Minn. died at home on April 12, 2009.
Pauline and her husband Joe owned and operated the Caledonia Bakery for over four decades.
She is preceded in death by husband, Joe; granddaughter, Angela Tucker; and her brother and sister.
She is survived by children, John (Jennifer), Mary (Duan) Dixon,
Frederick (Dorothy) and Jane (Chris) Hall; 11 grandchildren; 25
great-grandchildren; and sister, Ione (Dale) Haugen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 17 at The
Church of St. Patrick in Inver Grove Heights. Visitation is 5-7 p.m.
Thursday at Roberts Funeral Home, Inver Grove Heights and also 9-10
a.m. prior to Mass at church. Interment is 2:30 p.m. Friday at Calvary
Cemetery, in Caledonia.
Memorials are preferred to Allina Hospice or donors’ choice.

Walter "Junior" Shuda

Walter
“Junior” Edward Shuda, 85, of Brownsville, Minn., died Saturday, April
11, 2009 at Valley View Healthcare and Rehab in Houston, Minn.
He was born April 2, 1924 in La Crosse, Wis. to Walter and Mary
(Tegeder) Shuda, Sr. He served in the U.S. Army Airforce as a
tailgunner, flying over Germany during WWII. He married Donna Anderson,
March 15, 1947 in Caledonia. Junior worked for Steve Pavella and then
for Peter Nelson and Son in La Crosse for many years laying brick and
doing cement work.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Brownsville, six daughters
and one son: Connie (George) Mroch, Burlington, Wis.; Pat (Gary)
Sanders, Genoa, Wis.; Julie (John) Holzwarth; Butch (Debbie) Shuda;
Jane (Tim) Foellmi, all of Brownsville; Keri (Dan) Becker, New Albin,
Iowa; and Diane Shuda, Caledonia; 16 grandchildren; 20
great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Jean) Shuda; and two sisters,
Jean Slaback and Donna Stanles.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerome, Hubert, John, and
Bernard; sisters, Virginia, and Rose Marie Shuda, Marilyn (Grant)
Jensen, Marcelyn (George) Kolbo and Patricia (Robert) Kloety.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am, on Wednesday, April 15,
at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brownsville. Father Gregory Leif will
officiate and burial with military honors will be at Veteran’s
Cemetery, Brownsville. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at
Breza Hall, next to St. Patrick’s, Church, where a prayer service will
be held at 7 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service
at the church Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s
Association or St. Patrick’s Church Building Fund. McCormick Funeral
Home, Caledonia is assisting the family with arrangements.

Violet MacKay

Violet Bertha MacKay, age 99, died March 15, 2009 in Leo, Ind.
Violet was born Jan. 1, 1910 to Louis and Frieda (Heitman) Kruse in New
Albin, Iowa. She lived in Eagle Grove, Iowa most of her life, where she
worked in her home as a seamstress until the age of 92.
She was peceded in death by her husband, Archie MacKay; son Charles
MacKay; daugher Kathye (Joe) Madsen, three grandchildren; and six
brothers and sisters: Lula Todd, Esther Haar, John Kruse, Irma Reinke,
Bill Kruse and Harry Kruse.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon (Robert) Metcalf, Spencerville,
Ind.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and two sisters:
Helen Hauser, Caledonia, Minn.; and Norma Wagner, Walnut Creek, Calif.

Julie Heintz

Julie Anne Heintz, age 49, of House Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 after a battle with cancer.
Julie was born in Caledonia, Minn. on Sept. 4, 1959 to Leslie and Carol
(Harr) Heintz. She worked for 15-plus years as a nurse assistant at
Hillview Nursing Home in La Crosse. She married Rick Haley on June 6,
2006. She worked several years at Delmar Gardens and Gardenview Nursing
Home in St. Louis, Mo.
Julie is survived by her husband, Rick Haley; two daughters, Shannon
(Michael) Janczura, and Kari O’Leary; one step-daughter, Tanya Haley;
one granddaughter, and her brother Dale (Renee) Heintz.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James Heintz and Leslie “Butch” Heintz.

Olga Ranzenberger

Olga E. Ranzenberger, 94, of Caledonia, Minn., died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at her home.
She was born August 9, 1914, in Blackhammer Township, Minn., to Martin
and Viola (Rank) Lund. Olga attended school in Blackhammer before
graduating from Spring Grove High School. She then attended college in
Winona, Minn. On January 27, 1933, Olga married Leonard Ranzenberger
and he preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1978. Together they farmed in
rural Caledonia all their married life.
Olga is survived by her three children: two sons, Leonard, Jr. (Joyce),
and Darold “Buck” (Audrey); and one daughter, Wanda Merzenich and her
special friend, Al; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five
great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Oscar (Mary) Lund; two sisters,
Betty Bigalk and Jessie (Ralph “Wimpy”) Houser; and two sisters-in-law,
Pat Lund and Helen Lund.
In addition to her husband, Olga was preceded in death by four
brothers: Lawrence, Oren, Vernon, and Maurice; and two sisters, Irene
and Ruth.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 2 p.m. at St.
John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev. Jon Wolff will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at
Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Caledonia, on Friday from 4 p.m. until
8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of
service.

Robert "Bob" Myhre

|
Robert
(Bob) G. Myhre, age 52, of Canton, Ga. died on Thursday, April 2, 2009,
at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born on Dec. 23, 1956 and graduated from Caledonia High School
in 1975. Immediately following graduation, Bob went active in the
United States Army joining the Airborne Ranger division, 1st Bn. 75th
Infantry, and was subsequently promoted to Noncommissioned Officer
status and instructed Airborne Ranger students. After an Honorable
discharge in 1985, he joined the I.B.E.W. as a heavy equipment operator
working in the electrical and construction fields, and later worked at
East Coast Terminal seaport in Savannah. In 1995, Bob entered the
technological field of wireless telecommunications where he worked his
way up from Tower Hand to Project Manager.
Bob is survived by his wife, Tina DeMartini, and two daughters,
Alexandra and Elizabeth, of Canton, Georgia; his father and mother
Robert E. and Harriet Myhre of Caledonia; his brothers Wayne (Doris
Loeffler), Caledonia and Dennis (Heidi), Eitzen; his sisters Theresa
Krueger (Jeff), La Crescent; Karen Schiltz (Mark); and Deb Augedahl
(Brad) both of Caledonia. He is also survived by his
father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Melba DeMartini of San
Antonio, Texas; brothers-in-law Brian DeMartini, Brunswick, Georgia;
and Kirk DeMartini, San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by an
infant brother and his grandparents, Styrk and Amanda Myhre and Herbert
and Lillian Wunnecka.
A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Caledonia on Sunday, April 19, 2009, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. with a prayer
service at 4 p.m. Family and friends are welcome.
Memorials may be sent to Merchants Bank, (1 Sprague Square, P.O. Box
188, Caledonia, MN 55921), to fund an education account for his
daughters.

Virgil Welper

Virgil Otto Welper, age 73, of New Albin, Iowa, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Thornton Manor Nursing Home in Lansing, Iowa.
Virgil was born Sept. 14, 1935 in Waukon, Iowa to Virgil and Irene
(Buege) Welper. He was a lifelong New Albin area resident. He was a New
Albin high school graduate. He never married.
Through the years Virgil worked for Ford garage in Caledonia, Minn.,
Ray Hudson in La Crosse, and Alfred Tabbot in New Albin, who he
eventually bought the business from.
Virgil served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany.
He received an award for Sharpshooter. He belonged to VFW Post of New
Albin, and the American Legion Post in Caledonia. Virgil was a member
of St. Peter’s Church in New Albin.
He is survived by his brother Delbert (Colleen) Welper, La Crescent, Minn., and eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers Everett and Leslie, and his great nephew Damien Hunter.
Visitation for Virgil will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Friday , April 10,
at the New Albin Community Center in New Albin, where there will be a 3
p.m. memorial service, with Pastor William Reese officiating.
Military rites are provided by the New Albin VFW Post, and the American Legion Post of Caledonia.
The family requests memorials be given to the New Albin Fire Department.
Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove is in charge of arrangements.
