John Stallings

John Forrest Stallings Jr., 84 of Hopewell, Va. died Tuesday, August 26, 2008 in the McGuire Veterans Hospice.
He served in the U. S. Navy during WW II, on the carriers USS Hornet
CV-8, USS Wasp CV-7 and the USS Nassau CVE-16. He participated aboard
the USS Hornet, in the Battle of Midway Island, the Battle of Coral
Sea, and survived the sinking of the carrier at the Battle of
Santa Cruz Island. He witnessed history from the flight
deck of the Hornet when Jimmy Doolittle launched the surprise
B-25 bombing raids on Japan in 1942.
His Caledonia area known crew members were: Elmo Wojahn (Houston), the
late John Rolfing (Caledonia) and Carl Amundson (Spring Grove).
John visited the Caledonia, Minn. area once a year for 60 years.
His last trip was for the July 4th celebration in Eitzen this
year. All five of his children: Marian, John, Tommy, Sherry
and Linda made the trip with him.
He was a retired supervisor with Allied Chemical/Honeywell.
John was married to the late Marian Senn Stallings. Marian’s
family consists of her parents the late Edgar and Margaret Senn,
the late Evelyn Besse, Ardyce Esch and Audrey Ranzenberger.
John spent special times with the Senn, late Dale Besse,
Bob Esch, and Buck Ranzenberger families over the years.

Ronald Meyer

Ronald V. Meyer, 70, of Eitzen, Minn., died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 at
Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, after a courageous battle
with cancer.
He was born May 6, 1938, in Wilmington Township, Minn., to Henry and
Frieda (Beneke) Meyer. Ron lived in the Eitzen, Minn. area all of
his life, graduating from Caledonia High School in 1956.
On Aug. 21, 1959, he married Linda Nelson in Eitzen and they recently
celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. In his younger years, Ron
worked for area farmers. He then drove truck for road
construction and David Kurk Trucking of Eitzen. Ron retired from
Staggemeyer Stave in Caledonia after being employed there for over 30
years. He was a lifelong member of St. Luke’s United Church of
Christ in Eitzen, was a member of the Eitzen Volunteer Fire Department
for over 50 years, served on the Eitzen City Council for 14 years, and
has been the Mayor of Eitzen for the past 6 years.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; a daughter: Kimberly (Jerry) Bell,
Dubuque, Iowa; two sons: Doug (Lori) Meyer and Darryl (Kristie) Meyer,
both of Eitzen; nine grandchildren; two brothers: Norbert (Doris Ann)
Meyer, Waukon, Iowa and Merlin Meyer, Caledonia; and a sister-in-law,
Beverly Meyer, Eitzen.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Irvin Meyer; and a sister-in-law, Luella Meyer.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St.
Luke’s United Church of Christ, Eitzen. Rev. Kent A. Meyer, Ph.D. and
Rev. Debra A. Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the church
cemetery. Friends may call at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ on
Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until
the time of service. Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, is in
charge of arrangements.

Lucille Thompson

Lucille A. Thompson, age 80, of Racine, Minn. died Aug. 20, 2008 at her home.
Lucille was born on May 28, 1928 in Caledonia, Minn. to John Midby and
Lydia (Lehre) Midby. She attended and graduated from Caledonia High
School and on Sept. 9, 1950 she married Leslie Thompson at the Lutheran
Church in Caledonia.
She is survived by her husband Leslie Thompson of Racine, four
children: Phil (Beth) Thompson, Deer River, Minn.; Cindy (John)
Bultena, Mendota Heights; Paul (Connie) Thompson, Racine; and Bruce
(Connie) Thompson, Stewartville, six grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters: Marion (Warren) Keating, Coeur
d’Alene, Idaho, and Janice (John) Bergurt, Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008 at the
Grand Meadow Lutheran Church in Grand Meadow with Reverend Ann
Siverling officiating. Burial was in the Bear Creek Lutheran Cemetery
in rural Grand Meadow.

Terry Mullins

Terry E. Mullins, 71, of Caledonia, Minn., died Sept. 7, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Terry was born Oct. 12, 1936, to Earl and Gertrude Mullins at his home
in Fayette, Iowa. He graduated from Fayette High School in 1955 and
Upper Iowa University in 1961. He served in the United States Army as a
postmaster (PFC) of the US Missile Command at Fort Carson, Colo. On
April 27, 1961, he married Diane Olson.
Terry was a 6th grade teacher and coach in the Caledonia School
District for 32 years. As a varsity girls basketball coach he
compiled a record of 245-42, including a trip to the Minnesota State
Basketball tournament. He also enjoyed as much success coaching in the
Caledonia football program.
Terry had an immense passion for the outdoors earning him the Outdoorsman of the Year Award.
Terry is survived by his wife Diane, of 47 years, three children:
Elizabeth (Joel) Nelson, Dellwood, Minn.; Mitchell (Nancy) Mullins,
Caledonia; and Mia (Patrick) Lynch, of Orono, Minn., and five
grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Sharlene (Chuck)
Gooder, Blaine, Minn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10,
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will
officiate and burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery,
Caledonia. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Family
Hall behind St. Mary’s Church, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Friends
may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Angela Weichert

Angela
Kay Weichert, 68, of Springfield, Va. and formerly of Caledonia, died
Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008 at her home after a short illness with
cancer. She was born March 5, 1940 in Fillmore County, Minn. to
William and Irma (Karon) Dvorak. She graduated from Loretto High School
in Caledonia and attended the University of Wis. La Crosse and
Winona State University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree and
Master’s Degree in American History.
Angela married Greg Weichert May 21, 1960 in Brownsville. She
taught at St. Mary’s Grade School in Caledonia until 1980. She
moved to Virginia and taught government to the learning disabled
students at Robinson High School until her retirement in May, 2008.
She is survived by her husband Greg of
Springfield; a son, David, La Crosse; her mother Irma Dvorak, Winona;
two brothers, Bill (Nancy) Dvorak, Rochester, Minn.; Francis (Cindy)
Dvorak, Brownsville; two sisters, Monica Leamen, Walkersville, Md.; and
Adeline Young, Kankakee, Ill. She was preceded in death by her
father.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am, Friday, Sept. 12,
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will
officiate. Friends and family may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at
Holy Family Hall, behind St. Mary’s Church, Caledonia, where a rosary
will be said at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friends may
also call one hour prior to the service at the church Friday. Memorials
may be given to the American Cancer Society or donors choice.

Margaret Meyer

Margaret M. Meyer, 85, of Waukon, Iowa, formerly of Dorchester, Iowa, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at her home in Waukon.
Margaret Minnie Meyer was born Aug. 19, 1923 in rural Dorchester, Iowa,
the daughter of Truman and Leona (Bulman) Wenig. She attended
country school in the rural Dorchester area. Margaret was a housekeeper
for Alvin Meyer and a caregiver to his children for several years. On
Oct. 4, 1949 she married Alvin John Meyer at the Little Brown Church in
Nashua, Iowa. They farmed together in Union City Township in rural
Dorchester for many years. She and Alvin moved to Waukon in 1969.
Margaret moved to Southridge Apartments in January of 2006. She was a
member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ and its ladies aid.
Margaret also served as historian for the Waukon Senior Citizen Club.
Survivors include her sons: Gordon (Cheryl) Meyer, North Little Rock,
Ark.; and John (Kathleen) Meyer, Dorchester; eight grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn (Milton) Staggemeyer of Eitzen,
Minn.; and a son-in-law, Dennis (Jill) Lamport of Indianola, Iowa.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin who died in 1990; a
daughter, Janice Lamport; a granddaughter, Deanne Lamport and three
sisters, Nadine Fritz, Lorna Meiners and Donna Lou Fruechte.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 7, at 1:30 p.m. at St.
Luke’s United Church of Christ, Eitzen, with Rev. Kent and Rev. Deb
Meyer officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. Friends
may call one hour before services at the church on Sunday.

Teresa Hegge

Teresa Rose Francisco Hegge, 45, of Spring Grove, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008 after an eight year struggle with cancer.
Born on May 29, 1963, in Anaconda, Mont. to Jack and Kathleen
Francisco, Teresa lived in the Anaconda area for her entire youth.
While attending Montana State University she met Bruce Hegge, whom she
later married. Her education continued at Mankato State
University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree and
in 1991 a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology.
Teresa’s career in medical speech pathology encompassed positions in
Minneapolis, Minn., the Detroit, Mich. area, and facilities in
southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. In 1995 she became the
educational speech pathologist in the Spring Grove and Caledonia school
systems.
Teresa is survived by her husband, Bruce Hegge of Spring Grove, where
they have lived together since 1992, and her sons Hank and Lance; her
mother, Kathleen Francisco, Anaconda, Mont.; siblings: Michele (Doug)
Butori, Butte, Mont.; Kathy Francisco (John Brown), Bozeman, Mont.; and
John Francisco, Butte, Mont.; aunt Terrel Francisco, Hamilton, Mont.; in-laws Janice and Owen Hegge, Spring
Grove; Karin (Hiroshi) Tanaka, Memphis, Tenn.; and Sara (Darin)
Bratland, Spring Grove.
Teresa was preceded in death by her father, Jack Francisco.
Teresa’s wish was “please do not send me flowers. Instead, do something kind for yourself or a loved one.”
Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Spring Grove. The service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 30
at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Lois Johnson

Lois E. Johnson, 80, of Caledonia, Minn., died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
She was born April 30, 1928, in Caledonia, Minn., to Albert and Benerva
(Berquam) Myhre. Lois was a 1946 graduate of Caledonia High School. On
Dec. 18, 1948, she married Ronald Johnson at Wilmington Lutheran Church
and they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year.
Survivors include her husband, Ron; five children, Lynda (Leslie “Ed”)
Stokke, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Rebecca (David) Sampsel, Prior Lake, Minn.;
Patty (Richard) Groshong, Marion, Iowa; David Johnson, La Crosse; and
Dawn Johnson, Rochester, Minn.; 9 grandchildren; four sisters: Sylvia
Ward, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Bernice (Bill) Ostern, Spring Valley,
Minn.; Franny (Terry) Link, Onalaska, Wis.; and Katie (Jerald) Holland,
Austin, Minn.; one brother, Neil Morey, Caledonia; one sister-in-law,
Lorraine Myhre, Caledonia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Merle
and Catherine Johnson and Imy and Bill Dorival, all of Caledonia, and
Harold and Mary Johnson of Shakopee, Minn.
Lois was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas and Robert Johnson; one
brother, Albert Myhre; one brother-in-law, Robert Ward; and one
sister-in-law, Shirley Morey.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Immanuel
Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev. Steven E. Meyer will
officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call
at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and
also on Sunday from 12 noon until the time of service.
