Anita Ochsner PDF Print
Anita J. (Bouquet) Ochsner, 97, of Wabasha, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Wabasha.

She was born Jan. 13, 1911 in Caledonia, Minn., the daughter of John P. and Mary (Hampe) Bouquet. She was a graduate of Loretto High School in Caledonia and then attended the College of St. Theresa in Winona.  She later transferred to the University of Minnesota where she graduated in 1932 with a degree in Home Economics.  She married Dr. Clarence G. “Oxy” Ochsner June 9, 1934 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Caledonia.  The couple then moved to Wabasha where Dr. Ochsner was one of the founding physicians of the Community Clinic.Anita and her husband moved to California in 1967. He died Sept. 16, 1970. Anita moved back to Wabasha permanently in 1986.

She was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha and a member of its Council of Catholic Women. In her earlier years she was active in the St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Auxiliary.

Anita is survived by sons Dr. John (Mary) Ochsner, Wabasha; Dr. Tom (Kay) Ochsner, Santa Barbara, Calif.; Pete (Carolyn) Ochsner, Captiva Island, Fla.; David (Mary) Ochsner, Wabasha; Bill (Mary) Ochsner, Omaha, Neb.; C. G. Ochsner, Montecito, Calif.; Dr. Fred (Debra) Ochsner, Durango, Colo.; Paul (Colleen) Ochsner, Grand Junction, Colo.; daughters Mary (Larry) Haeg, St. Paul; Carolyn (Dr. Tim) Hogan, Northfield, Minn.; 31 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; sister, Bertha Ziegler, Milwaukee, Wis.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Oxy; four brothers: Victor, Wilfred, Otto and Dr. Bertram Bouquet, and two sisters: Theo Griebler and Evelyn Bouquet, preceded her in death. 

A funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. at St. Felix Catholic Church with the Reverend Glenn Frerichs officiating. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery. Friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Friday, Feb. 1, from 4 - 8 p.m. where there will be a CCW rosary service at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to St. Felix School or to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center Foundation. The Abbott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian V. Stenehjem, age 93, died Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Madonna Meadows, Rochester.stenehjem.jpg

Lillian Viola Glasrud was born in Black Hammer (rural Spring Grove, Minn.) on Jan. 7, 1915 to Arthur and Amanda (Myhro) Glasrud. She was baptized in the Black Hammer Church, Feb. 7, 1915 and confirmed in Spring Grove Lutheran Church. She attended her first six grades in Northcote, Minn. public schools where the family lived for seven years before returning to Spring Grove. She graduated from high school in Spring Grove in 1933 and from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in 1936, being honored as the recipient of the Louise M. Powell Award for highest efficiency in nursing. In 1949 she was appointed and worked as the school nurse for the Preschool and Elementary Lab Schools of the University of Minnesota until her marriage to A. “Don” Stenehjem of Caledonia on Sept. 17, 1950. They lived in Caledonia until moving to Rochester in 1958. She was Director of Nursing at Madonna Towers for two years. She became a teacher in the Child Care Assistant Program at the Rochester Vo-Tech School. She retired from teaching in 1981. She then became a consultant for the National Child Care programs.

Lillian was a member of the Naomi Women’s Circle, a life member of the Order Of Eastern Star; the Retired Teacher’s Associations and  the National Assoc. Educators of Young Children and received statewide recognition in 1983 from them.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, A. “Don” Stenehjem of Rochester, two daughters: Judy Lawver, Tacoma, Wash.; and Jane (Ron) Timmerman, St. Peter, Minn; one son, Dean (Julie) Stenehjem, Rochester; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sisters: Sylvia Meitrodt; Dorothy Garrison; Pernella Glasrud; Marcy Roberts and Delores Hallberg.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Rochester with the Reverend Steven Ronningen officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour at the church prior to the services on Saturday. Memorials are suggested to the Lions Eye Bank, Seasons Hospice, or her church.

wild.jpgBernice Marie (Meyer) Wild, 94, of New Albin, Iowa, died on Monday, January 21, 2008 at Thornton Manor, Lansing, Iowa.

She was born August 28, 1913 at home in New Albin to Albert and Louise (Spiegler) Meyer. Bernice attended New Albin High School where she played basketball. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught at rural schools. On December 31, 1934, Bernice married Kermit John Wild and he preceded her in death in February of 1972. On December 22, 1979, she married Floyd Wild and he preceded her in death on October 3, 1990.

Bernice was a member of the St. Peter’s Christian Community Church in New Albin where she served on the Women’s Fellowship and she was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Kenneth Casey Post #5603 of New Albin, Iowa.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly (Norman) Dresselhaus; two sons, Wendell (Marilyn) Wild and David (Linda) Wild; and a daughter-in-law, Ardyce Wild all of New Albin, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Wuennecke of New Albin; two step-children, Joyce Schroeder of Caledonia, Minn., and Burton (Jean) Wild of New Albin, Iowa; eight step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her first and second husband, Bernice was preceded in death by her son, Curtis Wild; one brother, Kermit Meyer; one brother-in-law, Edgar Wuennecke; and one step son-in-law, Tom Schroeder.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 25, 2008 at 10:30 am at St. Peter’s Christian Community Church, New Albin, Iowa. Rev. Dr. William J. Reese will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the New Albin Community Center on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a VFW Ladies Auxiliary service at 6:30 pm. Friends may also call at the church on Friday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, is in charge of arrangements.

George Thilmany, age 88, of Lake Winona Manor, died on Monday, January 21, 2008 at Community Memorial Hospital.

George was born on February 20, 1919, in Winona to Frank and Francis (Kosobushi) Thilmany. He married Belvadine Morey on June 9, 1941. He worked in maintenance for St. Teresa College for over 30 years, retiring in 1981.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two daughters and a son, and eight brothers and sisters.

George is survived by nine children, Sandy (Brian) Smith, Rochester; George (Susan) Thilmany, St. Charles; Nancy Toulou, Winona; Sharon (Robert) Nelson, Caledonia; Roxanne (David) Marks, Altura; Hope Thilmany, Winona; Lorin (Cheryl) Thilmany, Altura; Rodney (Deb) Thilman, Freeport Ill; Dawn (Ricky) Martinson, Stockton; 48 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held, Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel.

Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetary.

Visitation will be held at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday after 10:00 a.m.

Valborg Crystella Treangen, 92, died Jan. 14, 2008 at her home at the Spring Grove Assisted Living facility.

Valborg was born in Esmond, N.D. on July 16, 1915 to Knute and Clara (Askim) Veum. She moved with her parents and siblings to the Spring Grove area six years later. She attended school in rural Spring Grove and graduated from Spring Grove High School and attended Teachers Training in Spring Grove. She taught for 13 years in rural Spring Grove including Choice, Tawny, Freeburg, to name a few. Following teaching Valborg was an active partner in dairy farming for 31 years.

She married Orvel Treangen on June 8, 1947 at Riceford Lutheran Church. She was active in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Riceford, Faith Lutheran of Black Hammer, 4-H, Extention Home Study and the Hospital Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death are daughter Gloria; daughter-in-law Bonni Treangen; two brothers, Lester and Lennie Veum; brothers-in-law Anton Knutson, Gilman Treangen, Roland Treangen, Orvel Olson and sisters-in-law Irene Treangen, Judy Treangen and Rosie Olson.

She is survived by her husband Orvel; daughters Diane (Ken) Damerow, Albert Lea, Minn.; Marjorie (Fordyce) Brevig, Spring Grove; and son Dean, Farmington, Minn.; five grandchildren, four great-grandsons; sister Helma Knutson, Houston; and sister-in-law Florence Treangen, Dayton, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer, Spring Grove. Visitation will be held from 4 - 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove and one hour before the service on Saturday.
 
Phyllis M. Scobie PDF Print

scobie.jpg Phyllis M. Scobie, 88, of Mabel, and a longtime resident of Rochester, died Thursday, January 10 , 2008, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa.

She was born August 8, 1919, to Christian and Helen (Waymire) Rathmann in Boise, Idaho, where she spent her early years, graduating from high school in St. Paul.  She attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1941.  On April 10, 1943, she married George Scobie in St. Paul,  and they enjoyed life together for 63 years.  They lived in Rochester until moving to Mabel in July, 2005.

Phyllis was comptroller for the Rochester Post Bulletin, retiring in 1986. 

Phyllis is survived by four children:  Sandra (Jim) Landmark, Omaha;  Paul (Teresa) Scobie, St. Paul;  Dale (Sue) Scobie, Spring Grove;  and Deena (Steve) Reisman, Afton;  and five grandchildren.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband George and brother Darwin.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date with interment in Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

Esther M. (Diersen) Krueger, 90, of Caledonia died, Saturday January 12, 2008 at Caledonia Care and Rehab, where she had resided for seven years.

 Esther was born April 24, 1917 in Caledonia to John and Lisette (Kruse) Diersen. She attended the Hendel School in rural Caledonia. On December 28, 1939, Esther married Merrill Krueger at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together they ran a dairy farm and raised turkeys for many years. Merrill preceded Esther in death on February 19, 1999.

 Survivors include her son, Elton (Kathy) Krueger of Caledonia; her daughter, Arlene (Harry) Strusz of Winona, seven grandchildren,  14 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Orinda Diersen of Caledonia and Esther Diersen of Eitzen, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Sund of Viroqua. In addition her husband, Esther was preceded in death by her grandson, Karl Krueger; her brothers, Paul, Carl, and Albert Diersen; and her sisters-in-law, Esther (Paul) Diersen and Elaine Sund.

 Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Rev. Tom Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday  from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday  from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church and School of Caledonia.  Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary E. Hammell, 89, of rural Caledonia, died Saturday, Jan. 12, at home.

She was born on Dec. 30, 1918 in Wexford, Iowa to Patrick and Louise (Cota) Manning. She was married on June 19, 1947 to George J. Hammell and lived her entire married life on the family farm in Jefferson Township, Minnesota.

She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, serving as a religious education board member and instructor and was a member of the Rosary Society.

In addition to her husband, George, she is survived by five daughters: Margaret (Tim) Nordwig, Watertown, Wis.; Anna (Gary) Meiners, Caledonia; Phyllis (Larry) Yarber, Columbia, Ill.; Theresa (Gene) Ostert, Green Bay, Wis.; and Donna (A.K.) Kinard, Darien, Wis.; three sons: Patrick (Nancy) Hammell,West Bend, Wis.; Joseph (Diana) Hammell, Caledonia; Edward (Jan) Hammell, Caledonia; 25 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers: Leo (Mary) Manning and Jim (Kay) Manning, all of Lansing, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in New Albin with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the New Albin Community Center from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan 13.  Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
