Ingrid Ann Myhre, age 74, of Spring Grove, died Sunday May 23, 2010 at Tweeten Lutheran Healthcare Center in Spring Grove.
She was born Jan. 28, 1936 in Spring Grove to Arthur and Mabel
(Gullord) Evenson. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Spring Grove.
Ingrid was a 1954 Spring Grove high school graduate.
On Sept. 22, 1956 Ingrid married Oscar T. Myhre at Trinity Lutheran
Church. The couple farmed in Wilmington Township, rural Spring Grove
until retiring and moving to Spring Grove in 1998. Oscar preceded
Ingrid in death on Oct. 6, 2009.
Ingrid was a very active member of Wilmington Lutheran Church, and also the Spring Grove Legion Auxilary.
Ingrid is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Oscar, she was preceded in death by her sister Arlene and her brother Verlyn.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at 11 a.m. at
Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran
Cemetery. Pastor James F. Scaife will officiate.
Friends may call Wed. from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Shirley Wuennecke

Shirley A. Wuennecke, 80, of New Albin, Iowa, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Thornton Manor, Lansing.
She was born Feb.23, 1930, in New Albin, to Albert and Louise
(Speigler) Meyer. On Oct. 1, 1955, Shirley married Edger J. Wuennecke
at St. Peter’s Church in New Albin, Iowa. Together they owned and
operated the City Meat Market in New Albin from 1957 until health
problems kept them from the store. Edger preceded Shirley in death on
April 16, 2007. Shirley was an active member of St. Peter’s Church in
New Albin and a member of the Kenneth Casey VFW Post 5603, New Albin,
Women’s Auxiliary.
Survivors include one daughter, Angie (David) Strong; and one son, Alan
(Kelley) Wuennecke, both of New Albin, Iowa; five grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by one brother, Kermit Meyer; and one sister, Bernice Wild.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 28, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St.
Peter’s Church, New Albin, Iowa. Pastor William J. Reese will
officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Memorial Cemetery. Friends may
call at the New Albin Community Center on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8
p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of
service.

Steven Kurk

Steven J. Kurk, 48, of rural Spring Grove, Minn., died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at his home.
He was born Dec. 25, 1961, in La Crosse, Wis. to David and Jean
(Linzenmeyer) Kurk. Steven was a 1980 graduate of Caledonia High
School. On June 30, 1984, he married Vicky Denstad at St. Luke’s United
Church of Christ, Eitzen. Steven was employed in the family business,
David Kurk, Inc. in Eitzen, until it was sold in 2003. He was then
employed with Valley High Golf Course in Houston, Minn., and at
Willard’s Taxidermy in Brownsville, Minn. He was also an active member
of the Caledonia Sno-Gophers and the Spring Grove Athletic Boosters.
Survivors include his wife, Vicky of rural Spring Grove; two sons,
Jesse and Colin Kurk; his parents David and Jean Kurk, Eitzen, Minn.;
one sister, Lori (Joel) Cheney, Roseville, Minn.; and one brother,
Scott (Ann) Kurk, Caledonia, Minn.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 27, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St.
Luke’s United Church of Christ, Eitzen. Rev. Debra A. Meyer and Rev.
Kent A. Meyer, Ph.D, will officiate. Burial will be in the church
cemetery. Friends may call at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ on
Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until
the time of service.

William "Bill" Schaller

William E. “Bill” Schaller, 96, of Freeburg, Minn., died Thursday, May
20, 2010, with family at his bedside. He had resided at Caledonia Care
and Rehab the past two weeks.
William Edward was born June 6, 1913, on a farm in Crooked Creek
Township, Houston County, Minn., to Frank and Amelia (Lubbe) Schaller.
He attended grade school in a one room country school, District 46,
Crooked Creek. On June 12, 1934, Bill was united in marriage to Blanche
Schuldt and she preceded him in death on April 20, 2005. Bill farmed
the family farm and lived in the area all his life.
Survivors include seven children: Jacquelyn Rask, Caledonia; Gwendolyn
Schaller, New Albin, Iowa; Ila Schaller, Freeburg; Robert (Beverly)
Schaller, Onalaska, Wis.; Jean (Arlin) Gran, Reno, Minn.; Connie
Ranzenberger, Caledonia, and Shirley (Tom) Richards, New Albin; 13
grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren;
and three sisters-in-law, Esther Merry, Rochester, Minn.; DeLaris
(Robert) Weiss, Overland Park, Kan., and Phyllis (Lee) Jensen, Bullhead
City, Ariz.
In addition to his wife, Bill was preceded in death by his siblings,
Florence, Clarence, Selma, and Marie; and two sons-in-law, Donald Rask
and David Ranzenberger.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at 11 a.m., at the
Evangelical Church of Peace, rural Freeburg, (Crooked Creek Township).
Pastor William J. Reese will officiate. Burial will be in the church
cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m.
until the time of service. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Caledonia,
is in charge of arrangements.

Timothy
Dale Vagts, age 49 of Farmington, died peacefully at his home on May 9,
2010 after a courageous 8-year battle with carcinoid cancer.
After a fun childhood and colorful teenage period including working
summers as a head wrangler at a ranch in Montana, Tim joined the US
Navy and proudly served his country for three years. After his
discharge from the Navy, Tim put himself through four years of college
with a degree in accounting. He had a long career in accounting,
and lastly Tim worked as a Senior Accountant for Vital Images in
Minnetonka.
Tim is survived by his wife of eight years, Marla Vagts; children,
Megan and Jenna Vagts; step-children, Amanda, Ryan and Angela Johnson;
parents, Dale and Joyce Vagts; grandfather Gareth Vagts; sister, Dawn
Vagts, brother and sister-in-law Dan and Teri Vagts, sister and
brother-in-law Jodi and Kevin Kepros, sister and brother-in-law Shannon
and George Gardner; brother and sister-in-law Sean and DeeDee Vagts,
mother-in-law Mary Watters, father-in-law Ron Kissel Sr., and brother-
and sister-in-law Ron and Debbie Kissel.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 Friday, May 14 at White Funeral Home,
Farmington. There was a memorial celebration at their home at 2785
210th Street East, Farmington, on Saturday, May 15 from 12 to 6 p.m.
with a memorial service at 2 p.m.

Hugh Rediske

Hugh Ernest Rediske, 85, of Hokah, Minn., died on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
He was born in Pleasant Valley in Leon, Wis. on Jan. 27, 1925 to
Charles and Vera (Warner) Rediske. Hugh entered the U.S. Army in 1942
at the age of 17. He turned eighteen on the boat over to Europe. He was
honorably discharged in 1945. Hugh was very proud of his service to his
country. Hugh bought a milk route and hauled milk to PET Milk Co. in
Sparta, Wis. He sold the milk route and went to work at Allis Chalmers
in La Crosse. Hugh started farming in Hokah in 1953. He married Helen
Hockenbery on June 28, 1947 in Sparta and enjoyed 63 years of marriage.
Hugh was proud to go on the Freedom Honor Flight in June 2009 with his
granddaughter Becci Rediske.
He is survived by his wife Helen, and their three sons, Vernon (Brenda)
Rediske, Cashton, Wis.; Myron (Joyce) Rediske, Decorah, Iowa and
Michael (Mary) Rediske, Hokah; 11 grandchildren, 16
great-grandchildren; two sisters Shirley (Billy) Todd, Garden City,
Mich. and Ruth (Leon) Sommerfield, Tomah, Wis.; two sisters-in-law
Beverly Rediske and Caroline Rediske both of Tomah.
Hugh was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald, Robert and Herbert; one sister Deloris and one brother-in-law Frank Noe.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at
Community Church of Hokah. Pastor David Possing officiated. Burial with
military honors by the Hokah American Legion Post 498 was in Mt. Hope
Cemetery. Friends called at the church on Monday from 4-8 p.m. and
again on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
The Schumacher – Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent is assisting the family.

Daisy Leone (Hanke) Score

Daisy Leone Score, 86, died April 29, 2010 at her home in Willmar, Minn.
Daisy Leone (Hanke) Score was born January 30, 1924 in Caledonia, Minn, to Ernest and Sarah (Harer) Hanke. They lived on a farm near Brownsville, Minn. where Daisy attended grade school. She graduated from Caledonia High School in 1941 and from Winona State Teachers College where she was an elementary education major and was a member of the famed Mendelssohn Choir. She taught second grade in Spring Grove, Minn. for four years and at Lincoln School in Willmar for 2 years. She also taught at Washington, Garfield, St. Mary’s in Willmar and St. Clara’s at Clara City.
On August 27, 1949, she was married to Clifford Score of Willmar at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Brownsville, Minn. Daisy was a 12 year 4-H club member and was Houston County style queen several times. In 1944 she was chosen “Outstanding Clothing 4-H Member of Minn.” and represented Houston County at the International 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. She represented all the 4-H members of Minn. and gave a talk at the annual meeting of the State Fair Board.
She was Vice-President of the Minn. Rural Youth, a Brownie, Junior and Cadette Girl Scout leader, Den mother for Cub Scouts, an executive committee member of the Christian Women’s Club, officer of Church Women United, Presbyterian Women from which she received the life membership pin,, choir, circle leader and officer and quilter. She was a Past President of the Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does 124 and a Doe of the Year.
She is survived by her children: Cathy Dawne (Dan) Swenson of Boscobel, Wis., Robert Clifford Skor of Willmar, and Richard Stanley Score of Spicer, Minn. as well as six granddaughters; three sisters; Violet (Harold) Hoglund of Roseville, Ruby Philpot of Beavercreek, Ore., and Donna Joyce Luttchens of New Albin, Iowa and one brother, Harley (Helen) Hanke of Morris, brother-in-law, Glen Jostad of Brownsville, Minn. and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Clifford Score, two sisters; Iris Anderson and Carmel Jostad and three brothers-in-law, Howard Grant, Elmer Luttchens and Alvin Philpot.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, May 5 at the First Presbyterian Church in Willmar with Rev. Richard Underdahl-Peirce officiating. The burial will be at a later date in Ft. Snelling. Friends may call from 5-8 pm, Tuesday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be designated for the “Daisy Fund” to provide scholarships for students interested in elementary education.

Mervin Ganrude

Mervin A. Ganrude, 81, of Hokah, Minn. died on Tuesday, April 27, 2010.
Merv was born on Oct. 6, 1928 in Lenora, Minn. to Elvin and Olga
(Olson) Ganrude. Merv grew up in Caledonia and graduated from Caledonia
High School in 1947. Mervin married Mary Ellen Engstler on Aug. 8, 1950
at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hokah. They built their home and
raised their family in rural Hokah and would have celebrated their 60th
anniversary this August.
Merv worked for Watkins and Hokah Co-op Oil before embarking on his
career as an over the road semi truck driver for Swift & Company of
La Crosse and Ashley Furniture Company of Arcadia, which he retired
from in 1992. Mervin, one of the original five drivers for Ashley,
earned the Million Mile Award, the first-ever 10 Year Service Award and
numerous other driver safety awards from Ashley. Merv also drove bus on
many occasions for his friend Joe Ready.
In the late 1940s Merv was a championship boxer and later a referee.
Merv excited crowds in La Crosse, Minneapolis, Rochester, Winona,
Caledonia and more while boxing for the Loretto Boxing Club of
Caledonia and Rochester Boxing Club. He was a Golden Gloves Champion
and S.W. Minnesota Flyweight Champion and headlined numerous cards all
over the state.
Merv is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ellen; four children:
James (late Mary Anne) Ganrude, Eau Claire, Wis.; Judy (Joe)
Kasid, Orlando, Fla. and Chaska, Minn.; Deb (Gary) Luecke,
Onalaska, Wis., and John (Michelle) Ganrude, La Crescent, Minn.; ten
grandchildren; one great-grandson; seven sisters-in-law: Lorraine
Ganrude, Helen Ganrude, JoAnn Engstler, Myrna Ganrude, Ruth Horihan,
Agnes Ganrude and Lois Engstler, and two brothers-in-law Don Engstler
and Pat Hayes.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers: Dale, Owen, Al, Warren,
Don, Verdayne and Bob Ganrude; one sister Marilyn Hayes; one
brother-in-law Gerald Engstler; a sister-in-law Dottie Ganrude; a
daughter-in-law Mary Anne (Boehm) Ganrude, and a great- granddaughter
Kylie Rose Kasid.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 3 at
St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hokah. Rev. Joseph Pete will officiate.
Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Hokah. Friends and family
may call at the Schumacher – Kish Funeral Home, La Crescent on Sunday
from 3-6 p.m. and again at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the
time of service. Memorials are preferred to St. Peter’s School.
