Kathleen Ellen Sauer, age 57, of Caledonia, Minn./Reno, Minn. died suddenly Saturday, April 3, 2010.
Kathy was born March 13, 1954 to Edward and Rita (Klinski) Sauer in La Crosse, Wis.
Survivors include one sister and two brothers: Cheryl Thompson,
Melrose, Wis.; Forrest Sauer, Freeburg, Minn.; and Ron Sauer, Caledonia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 8, at
St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will
officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation
will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning before the service at
the church.

Raymond Stadtler, Jr.

Raymond Stadtler, Jr., 70 of Caledonia, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse, Wis.
He was born March 24, 1940 in Caledonia to Raymond and Amelia (Loken)
Stadtler, Sr. He married Judy Cochran Oct. 13, 1962 at St. John the
Baptist Catholic Church in Caledonia. Junior worked as a brick layer
for Nelson Construction and George Kittleson. He enjoyed farming on his
land east of Caledonia.
He is survived by his wife Judy of Caledonia; a daughter Karen (Mike)
Gran, Caledonia; five grandchildren; a brother LeRoy (Rose) Stadtler,
Caledonia; and a sister Darlene (Bob) Corcoran, La Crescent.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Ann Bauer, and a brother-in-law, Richard Gilbert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 6, at
St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will
officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation
will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Holy Family Hall, next to St. Mary’s
Church, Caledonia, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 pm.
Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church
Tuesday.

Arthur Hoff

Arthur L. Hoff, 80, of Eitzen, Minn., died suddenly Sunday, March 28, 2010, at his home.
He was born May 3, 1929, in Centerville, Wis., to Raymond and Irene
(Nelson) Hoff. On Dec. 14, 1947, Arthur married Erna Allen at Mt.
Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse, Wis. He then served in the
United States Coast Guard in the early 1950s. Arthur and Erna
previously resided in the states of Alaska, Oregon, and Washington
before moving back to this area in 1993. On Nov. 13, 2003 Erna preceded
Arthur in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Steve) Shivers, Black Hawk,
S.D.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Beverly (Hamm) Westlie, Osseo,
Wis., and Carol Snuggerud, Portland, Ore.; one brother, Raymond “Butch”
(Joyce) Hoff, The Dalles, Ore.; and Arthur’s dear companion and friend,
Mary Lou Sailor, of Eitzen, Minn. and her family.
In addition to his wife, Arthur was preceded in death by two brothers,
Harland and Donald Hoff; and one sister in infancy, Philis Elaine Hoff.
Memorial services will be Saturday, April 3, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Zion
Ev. Lutheran Church, Eitzen. Rev. Todd Krueger will officiate. Burial
will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on
Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Bernadette Teff

Bernadette
G. Teff, age 100 of Dorchester, Iowa died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at
Tweeten Lutheran Health Care Center, Spring Grove, Minn.
Bernadette was born March 27, 1910 in Caledonia, Minn. to Simon and
Elizabeth (Thillen) Klug. She married Carlton Teff Feb. 12, 1935 at St.
Peter’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Carlton preceded her in death in
1984.
Bernadette volunteered at Allamakee Manor in Waukon. She was a member
of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was active in the Rosary Society.
She is survived by 11 children, Joseph Teff, Dorchester; Elizabeth
Nutter and Joan Berg both of La Crosse, Wis.; Leo (Donna) Teff, Marion,
Iowa; Kenneth (Dana) Teff, Farmington, Minn.; Thomas (Peggy) Teff,
Dorchester; Angela (Michael) Vondrashek, Carol (Doug) Bakkum and
Gregory Teff all of Stoddard, Wis.; George (Gail) Teff, Dorchester and
Debra (Dale) Herrmann, Waukon, Iowa; daughters-in-law Sharon Teff,
Dorchester and Barbara Teff, Lakeville, Minn.; 36 grandchildren and 41
great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons,
Lloyd and James; two sons-in-law David Nutter, Sr. and Gerald Berg,
Sr.; three sisters Helen and Dorothy Klug, and Ethel Johnson; three
brothers Julius, Leo, and Arnold; one brother-in-law, Fenton Johnson;
one grandchild, James Berg; two great-grandchildren Amanda Berg and
Indigo Knight.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, April 5,
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dorchester, Iowa. Father Joseph
Schneider will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery,
Dorchester. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. before the service
at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Church,
Dorchester, the La Crosse Community Foundation—the Bernadette Teff
Family Fund which gives scholarships to young people, The Learning
Together School which funds the education of young mothers, St. Pat’s
Elementary Waukon, or the donor’s choice.

Daniel L. Mechtel, 52, of West Salem, Wis., died Monday, March 29, 2010, at his home.
Memorial services are being planned for mid-April and will be announced
in a complete obituary by Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Caledonia,
Minn.

Vivian Lewis

Vivian Ruth Lewis, 89, died Thursday, March 25 at St. Mary’s hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Vivian Ruth Schroeder was born to Elsie Klinski Schroeder and Louis
Schroeder Dec. 11, 1920 in Caledonia, Minn. She graduated from
Caledonia High School. She married Lester Luttchens in 1939. They were
later divorced. Vivian moved to Rochester, Minn. in 1962 and worked at
Comfortrol - utility sales. In 1965 she married Otto Lewis and they
moved to Maplewood, Minn. where she worked as a secretary to the city
manager until her retirement. They retired to Florida in 1982. She
returned to Rochester in 2002 to live with her son.
Vivian was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her son, L. Gerald (Dixie) Luttchens,
Rochester, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson.
There will be a gathering in memory of Vivian at her granddaughter’s home April 10.

Mildred Albee

Mildred Albee, 95, of Caledonia, Minn., died Friday, March 19, 2010, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse, Wis.
She was born Aug. 21, 1914, in Portland Prairie, Minn., to William and
Emma (Fruechte) Wiegrefe. On Sept. 7, 1939, she married Charles P.
Albee at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Eitzen, Minn.
Mildred and her husband farmed in rural Caledonia for many years before
moving into Caledonia in 1971. She was an active member of Caledonia
United Methodist Church, sang in the church choir, taught Sunday
school, and was a member of the church women’s group, the United
Methodist Women. Mildred was on the Founder’s Day commitee for many
years and enjoyed volunteering in many other community organizations.
She was a charter member of the Portland Prairie 4-H Club and
volunteered as a leader for the Caledonia Rockets 4-H Club for 21
years. Mildred was also honored to recieve the Outstanding Senior
Citizen Award in Houston County.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Charles; four daughters,
Joanne Rice, Caledonia; Kathy (Bob) Bubbers, Rock Falls, Ill.; Gail
(Eric) Nelson, Caledonia; and Janet (Wayne) Beyer, Lewiston, Minn.;
eleven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; three sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin, Harold, and Paul
Wiegrefe; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law and one son-in-law.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. at
Caledonia United Methodist Church, Caledonia. Rev. Mark Bengtson will
officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call
at Caledonia United Methodist Church on Monday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
and also on Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu
of flowers memorials may be given to Caledonia United Methodist
Church.

Llewellyn "Snooky" Torgerson

Llewellyn “Snooky” Torgerson, age 72, of Caledonia and formerly the
Mabel area died Sunday, March 14, 2010 at his
home.
Snooky was born Dec. 27, 1937 in Amherst Township, Fillmore
County, Minn. to Orvin and Myrtle (Davidson) Torgerson. He attended
Canton High School. He served two years in the United States Army where
he worked with artillery in Germany. On June 17, 1961 he married
Wilma Lager at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia. They lived in
Prosper for several years before moving to Caledonia in 1997.
Snooky worked at several jobs including the natural gas pipe line in
Shawano, Wis., a filling station in Prosper, Torgerson’s Café in Mabel,
and a restaurant in Prosper, but he really enjoyed driving truck.
He had a canned milk and bulk milk routes in the Mabel area, then drove
for Robert Giblin in Caledonia, Caledonia Haulers, and then for Sno Pac
in Caledonia. He was a member of the American Legion Post 299 in Mabel.
Llewellyn “Snookie” is survived by his wife Wilma of Caledonia; five
children: Jerome (Julie), Canton; Julie (Jim) Stortz, of Mabel; Jeffrey
(Joan),Prosper; Joel (Amanda), Canton and Jody (LeeAnn), Cresco,
Iowa; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five siblings:
Ordell (Rita), Canton; Dale (Gloria), Mabel; Pearl (Charles) Holland,
Spring Grove; Stanley, Gilbert, Ariz., and Michael (Joy), Fort Collins,
Colo.
He was preceded in death by a sister Muriel “Tina” McCabe.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at the Henrytown
Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will be in
the church cemetery with military rites by the American Legion.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 17 at the Mengis Funeral
Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
