Caledonia’s Winter Wonderland includes many events to usher in holiday season

Caledonia’s Winter Wonderland Festival will be held Dec. 5, 6 and 7 with a number of activities scheduled to help everyone enjoy the beginning of the winter season.
Friday events
• Self-guided barn quilt tours. With two dozen eight by eight colorful barn quilts attached to barns and other ag buildings throughout the Caledonia area, persons can enjoy a tour through the picturesque countryside. Maps are available at the Caledonia Chamber of Commerce office.
• Heritage Quilt Showing “Pieces of Yesterday-Treasurers Today.” Historic quilts are on display in area businesses. Look for the colorful flyer in business windows that indicate a quilt on display inside.
• Rotary Club Soup Supper. Enjoy a hearty meal, including soup and dessert before the Christmas Lighted Grand Parade. The supper will be served from 4:45 to 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Auditorium. Price is $6 for adults, children under four are free.
• Enjoy a brisk December evening with the Christmas Lighted Grand Parade, which begins at 7 p.m. and runs right down Main Street in downtown Caledonia. Caledonia area World War II veterans will serve as parade grand marshals this year and will lead the parade while riding in a bus. Residents are urged to turn out for the parade to honor these brave men who gave so much for all of our freedoms.
• Sing along with Santa following the parade until 9 p.m. near the Municipal Auditorium.
Saturday events
• The Lions Club Breakfast with Santa will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Municipal Auditorium. A craft sale by the ECFE will also be conducted.
• The first of hopefully three balloon launches during the weekend, will take place at 7:30 a.m. Weather cooperating, the launch site will be at the Caledonia Area High School/Middle School campus. If there is a change in the launch site to the Houston County Airport, signs will be posted. Check out the Caledonia Argus website at hometownargus.com for up-to-date launch info.
• An arts and crafts show, called “One Stop Shop” will be held at the St. John’s School gym from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• The 10th Annual Caledonia Quilt Show will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This show will feature some of the top quilters in the area. Pie will be served by the Immanuel Lutheran Youth Group.
• Houston County Historical Society’s Old Fashioned Christmas will be held in the Historic Village at the Houston County Fair Grounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. See accompanying story about all the displays and attractions that are part of this event.
• The second Bluff Valley Balloon launch will be held at 2:30 p.m.
Sunday events
• The third Bluff Valley Balloon launch is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Weather cooperating, the launch site will be at the Caledonia Area High School/Middle School campus. Caledonia’s Winter Wonderland Celebration is organized by the Caledonia Founder’s Day Committee with help from the Caledonia Area Chamber of Commerce, the Caledonia Lion’s Club, the Caledonia Rotary Club, and the Houston County Historical Society.
