Barack Obama was born Aug. 4, 1961 in the state of Hawaii. As a young child he lived in Indonesia (1967) for about four to six years. Then he returned to the state of Hawaii to live with his maternal grandparents. As a young man he moved to the mainland U.S.A. and has lived here ever since. After college at Columbia Univ. and Harvard he met and married his wife, Michelle. They have two little daughters.

Education: After elementary schooling Barack attended several privileged schools. Punahow Academy, Occidental College and Columbia University and graduated from Columbia Univ. in 1983. He served three years as community organizer in south Chicago. He entered Harvard at the age of 27 (1988) and graduated from Harvard magna cum laude. While at Harvard Barack was elected president and editor of the most influential legal publication in the country and was the first black person in the 100 year history of the journal.

Barack’s mother, Ann Dunham was born in Kansas. Her family lived in many places: Kansas, California, Seattle, Texas and Hawaii. She attended the Univ. of Hawaii, and was offered early admittance to the Univ. of Chicago but was unable to attend.

Barack’s father was an exchange student here from Kenya, attending the Univ. of Hawaii. His parents married in 1960. When Barack was two years old his father accepted an offer to study at Harvard on a scholarship. He accepted and never returned to his family. (Page 45 of Promise to Power)

Barack’s wife Michelle attended Bryn Maur Public Elementary School, Whitney Young Magnet School, college at Princeton and then Harvard Law School. She became a lawyer in a Chicago firm. She met Barack in 1988.

Dates from Barack’s history: 1988: met Michelle. They later married. Worked as a project organizer. 1995: Barack wrote Dreams of My Father. Was a Constitutional Law professor at Univ. of Chicago School of Law. 1996: Elected to State Senate. He served almost eight years. 1999: Most successful in Ill. state senate in his third year. 2004: Ran for U.S. Senate, gave key note address at Democratic national convention. Elected to U.S. Senate in Nov. 2007: Running for President of U.S.
