The Caledonia-Spring Grove gymnastics team traveled to Pine Island on Friday, Jan. 25. The Warriors’ team total was 113.63 to the Panthers’ 141.125.

“We are really feeling the results of losing two girls to injuries,” said C-SG  coach Paul Stevens. “Courtney Gran was dismounting the beam in practice and injured her ankle. She will probably miss the rest of the season. Ally Sheehan is making good progress on her ankle and hopefully will be back before the section meet.

“Pine Island’s team is so very strong that it was hard to get anyone in the top five places. I think Samantha Wermager placed fifth on bars and that was the only event that we placed anyone in the top five. We will be trying to look at everyone’s routines to make sure they are only doing the things that they need to. Extra moves, that if not done well, will cause deductions from their score. We just keep on trying to work hard and keep our heads up. Hopefully the girls will not let these injuries to Courtney and Ally bring them down.”

In vault C-SG scored 31.35 to Pine Island’s 35.95. Wermager led the Warriors with 8.45. Emily Klug had 7.95, Kaley Cross 7.6 and Miranda Moen 7.35.

In uneven bars Wermager took fifth with 7.9. Cross scored 7.3, Skylar Schoh 5.9 and Moen 5.75. C-SG’s total was 26.85 to Pine Island’s 33.925

On beam Wermager scored 7.8, Cross 7.625, Moen 5.65, and Klug 5.2. C-SG’s total was 26.275 to Pine island’s 36.325.

In the floor exercise the Warriors scored 29.15 to Pine Island’s 34.925. Wermager scored 7.85, Cross 7.4, Moen 7.2 and Klug 6.7.

Although Pine Island had the team win for the night, Caledonia-Spring Grove due to smaller numbers needed its girls to compete in more than just their best events. Four of the top six individuals in the all-around were Caledonia-Spring Grove girls. Wermager took second place with 32 points. Cross was fourth with 29.925; Moen was fifth with 25.95 and Klug sixth with 25.35.

JV scores

In uneven bars, Jennifer DeWitt  scored 3.3 and Mariah Stone 3.

Skylar Shoh scored 7.7 and DeWitt 7.1 in vault.

On floor Allison Zard and Stone both scored 4.4.

Stone scored a 4.3 on beam while Rachel Mills scored 3.5.

Next: Caledonia-Spring Grove hosts Byron on Friday, Feb. 1. The team travels to Stewartville on Monday, Feb. 4.
