After a difficult start to the dual meet season, the young Caledonia/Houston wrestling team is now 8-9 after a surge of victories in the past week.

Last Tuesday, the Warriors hosted northeast Iowa powers Osage, Decorah, and Waukon in a quadrangular.  The surging Warriors won two of three matches, including the program’s uncommon sweep against Waukon and Decorah.

Osage was anxious to improve its power ratings and drove around 100 miles to get meets with Waukon and Decorah.

Warriors pound Decorah

The Warriors opened with a solid 55-15 victory over Decorah.  Tanner Benson opened with a pin and his team mates Lee Burg, Dan Wermager, Tyler Stemper, Cullen Becker, Chris Myhre, and Aleksander Lorentzen followed with pins.

Owen Fitzgerald had a major decision.  Sonny Eisenhuth had a decision and Willie Krage won by forfeit.

 Edge Waukon

It came down to the next to last match and Chris Myhre guaranteed a victory with his 7-0 win at 215 pounds, for a team victory of 34-32.

After Benson opened with a forfeit victory, the Warriors had pins from Lyndon Becker and Burg to pull ahead 18-6.  Tyler Stemper had a major decision at 135 and  Fitzgerald had a decision.  Cullen Becker came back with a pin before Waukon ran off a major decision, decision, and a pin before Myhre won his key match.

Fall to Osage

In the final match, the Green Devils won 49-12.

Burg and Tyler Stemper won by decision and Myhre won by a fall at heavyweight.

Beat GMLOK on road

On Thursday, the Warriors traveled to Grand Meadow/LeRoy/Ostrander/Kingsland and came away with a decisive 43-19 victory.  It was a satisfying victory against a team that has upset the Warriors over the years.

Benson had another good start with a victory by decision.  Others getting decisions were Fitzgerald, and Lorentzen.

But the Warriors racked up a lot of points starting at 125 when Burg won by a fall and Wermager followed suit.  Tyler Stemper followed with a major decision and Fitzgerald ended the 19 point run.

Cullen Becker and  Frank added pins and  Myhre won by forfeit.
