Area men charged in Spring Grove break-ins PDF Print
Two Houston County men have been formally charged in the break-in of two Spring Grove churches that occurred earlier this month.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office received a report of burglaries at the Faith Lutheran Church and Calvary Evangelical Free Church in rural Spring Grove on Dec. 8.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, Gary Allen Skaggs, 21, of Spring Grove and Christopher Michael Berge, 23, of Hokah admitted to breaking into both churches and breaking into the residence in LaCrosse, WI.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office investigated and found that there was forced entry to a window of Faith Lutheran Church. Items found missing included banners, two candles from the alter and miscellaneous food items. Most of these items were found at a later time along rural roads.

The Calvary Evangelical Free Church had forced entry by breaking out a rear window of the church.  Items found missing were office supplies and miscellaneous food items. None of the missing items were recovered.

The LaCrosse Police Department reported that they had a daytime home burglary in the same time period as the churches.

The Houston County Sheriff’s office located and interviewed Skaggs and Berge. During the interviews both subjects admitted to the break-ins.

Both subjects are being held at the Houston County Jail and are awaiting charges from LaCrosse.
