“Cindy Colleran and I attended a two-day workshop at St. Louis Park High School put on by PowerSchool,” said Caledonia High School principal Ron Helmers. “It was very beneficial.”

The workshop covered the preparation needed to use the program for scheduling at the high school and middle school levels for the upcoming school year.

An official with PowerSchool demonstrated the programs capabilities and each institution was able to get a jump-start on their respective scheduling for the upcoming year.

“It is a powerful program and everyone’s schedules have different nuances,” Helmers told the Caledonia School Board Monday night. “They allowed us to use their computers to gain access to our own web site so that we could work on our system, rather than participating in a ‘mock scenario.’”

Colleran and Helmers were also allowed to work after the training session to complete much of the work “while it was fresh in our minds,” noted Helmers.

The principal stated that it will take several weeks to get everything loaded so that the school can do their own on-line pre-registration of classes.

“After that is completed we will be able to determine our sections numbers and prepare to load all of our information into the auto scheduler,” said Helmers.

Once that process is completed, the principal notes: “We are advised to attend another class where they will help us finish our scheduling process. At the end of that session, the master schedule would be built and all of the students would have a schedule for next year.”

Helmers, noted however, that some student schedules would still need to be hand built in order to fill in some scheduling gaps.
