Madison County, Iowa (home of the movie “Bridges of Madison County”) has nothing on Houston County. At a recent board meeting, Houston County Commissioners approved the bridge replacement list. In the next five years no less than 35 bridges will be rehabilitated, replaced or removed, according to the priority list.
Of the 35 projects, the majority fall under FEMA funding, Federal Highway Administration funding, or flood repair bonding. Fifteen bridges are on county state aid highways, while the remaining 20 are on township roads.
The following are the bridge projects, listed by the year the project will be conducted.
