The Warriors hosted the West Salem-Aquinas gymnastics team on Friday,
Feb. 8. Caledonia-Spring Grove posted a score of 100.745 to WS-A’s
score of 128.125.
Coach Paul Stevens said that injuries and illness have taken a toll on
the team. Varsity gymnasts that did not compete on Friday were Samantha
Wermager, Courtney Gran, Ally Sheehan, and Miranda Moen. “Sam is just
getting back after being ill. Courtney is injured; Ally is injured as
well as ill; and Miranda went home ill also,” said Stevens. “Plus we
had other JV girls that were ill too. Kaley Cross, Emily Klug, along
with Allison Zard were the only girls with varsity experience that
performed for us Friday night; so our team was made up of many girls
that were on JV in other meets.
“On beam we competed with not a full team. Four girls count in
the scoring and we only had three. So, things went as well as
could be expected,” said Stevens. “All the girls that went up to
varsity preformed well and the experience gained by that will help them
in the future.” Stevens said everyone is hopeful that things will come
together before next weekend’s Section One meet in Austin.
C-SG scored 30.7 to WS-A’s 30.975 on vault. Klug was fourth with 7.8
and Cross fifth with 7.7. Skylar Schoh scored 7.65 and Jennifer DeWitt
7.55.
On uneven bars the Warrior’s total was 23.97 to WS-A’s 32.6. Cross took
fourth with 7.650. Schoh scored 6.2, Klug 5.85 and Mariah Stone 4.275.
On balance beam Cross took fourth with 7.75. Klug scored 6.65 and Stone 5.75. C-SG’s total was 20.15 to WS-A’s 32.35.
On floor C-SG scored 25.925 to SW-A’s 32.05. Cross took second with 8.05. Klug scored 7.05, Cheryl Kirchner 5.7 and Zard 5.125.
Cross was second in the all-around with a score of 31.150 and Klug was fifth with 27.350.
Next: The last home meet of the season was on Monday, Feb. 11.
Many parents and friends moved all the equipment into the big gym for
that meet so the coaching staff could see how everything works there.
The Section meet will take place in Caledonia in 2009.
The 2008 Sectional tournament will take place in Austin on Saturday, Feb. 16.
