With all of the budget cuts that area schools have been forced to make due to declining enrollments and changes in state funding, it has become more than a little challenging trying to provide a well-rounded education for our citizens of tomorrow.

A Caledonia-area organization puts in countless hours with various fund-raising efforts to serve as a “safety net,” which helps the local school district maintain this excellent standard of education.

The District #299 Foundation helps purchase educational materials, provides funds necessary for field trips, and classroom equipment, which otherwise our local students would probably have to go without. The Foundation also gives out eight to 10 scholarships to graduating seniors each year.

One of the largest money-makers of the year is the annual Foundation Fun Night and Auction, which will be held this Saturday, Apr. 18 at the Four Seasons Community Center in Caledonia. Foundation board members have spent the past months recruiting and encouraging area businesses and individuals to donate some very impressive items to be auctioned off during the event.

 The evening begins with a social hour, cash bar, hors d’ oeuvres, and a silent auction at 5:30 p.m.  A catered dinner, featuring two entrees will begin at 6:30 and the live auction will follow at 8. The cost of the evening is $25 per person.

  Some of the items that will be auctioned off include:

• an authentic Caledonia Area Chamber of Commerce barn quilt;

• St. James Hotel lodging and dining;

• a lamb kabob dinner for 12;
