Richard S. Skauge, age 61, of Spring Grove, and formerly of Caledonia, died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at his home.
He was born Aug. 5, 1947 in Spring Grove to Clarence and Catherine
(Burns) Skauge. Richard was raised on Irish Ridge near Mabel, Minn. and
attended Mabel Public Schools. He served in the U.S. Army and was
stationed in Korea where he worked as a demolition engineer. Richard
owned and operated Richard’s Sanitation in Houston, Fillmore and La
Crosse Counties.
Richard is survived by a son, Greg (Tammie) Skauge and a daughter
Andrea (Jerry Ladsten) Colsch; three grandsons, all of Caledonia;
special friend Lynnette Erickson and her children and grandchildren,
Melissa (Chad) Espelien; and Corey (Erica) Anderson; two sisters, Mary
(Wayne) Blomgren, Rochester, Minn.; and Barbara (Frank) Miller,
Anchorage, Alaska.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Denis and
Helen Skauge, and a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Virgil
Sagdalen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Monday, April 27, at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will officiate
and burial with military honors will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Preble
Township. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, at Holy Family
Hall, behind St. Mary’s Church where there will be a 6:30 p.m. prayer
service. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the
church Monday.
