According to police reports on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at approximately 3:34 a.m. a complaint was made to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office of a burglary in progress that involved a number of individuals. Witnesses stated at least nine people had come in two vehicles to “beat up” a 17-year-old female at a Houston home, but fled when confronted by her father.

Houston and Winona county deputies were given the description of the two cars. Deputies from the two counties were called to Winona County Road 12 just west of County Road 1 near Nodine at 3:45 a.m. A vehicle matching the description of one of the cars was in the ditch but no one was in the car. Another car approached, passed through a stop sign and made a U-turn before being stopped by officers. The second vehicle matched the other car sought. The driver of the second car was a 17-year-old from La Crescent. She was arrested for fourth-degree DWI and failure to stop at a stop sign. She was taken to detox in Rochester.

The four passengers - Garrison, Spencer Ladsten, 19, of La Crescent, Tory Connor, 18, of Caledonia and Patrick Steven Falk, 19, of La Crescent - all were cited for minor consumption of alcohol and released.

Four of the adults, Danielle Lynn Garrison, Mackenzie Lea Barney, James Barney and Nathaniel Arlow Abraham, appeared  in Houston County District Court May 18 where omnibus hearings were scheduled for three of the four on July 1, 2009.
