Icy conditions
along with a white-out effect created by a passing semi led to a two
vehicle accident on the afternoon of Dec. 23.
The accident left a Caledonia man, Darrel Houdek, in critical condition at Franciscan Skemp Hospital in La Crosse.
Houdek,
along with his passengers Donna Jane, 41, of Caledonia, and Laura
Hannan, 13, also of Caledonia, were traveling east on Hwy 44 SW of
Hokah when a semi passed them creating the white-out conditions.
Houdek
lost control of his 1987 Pontiac Grand Am, and the vehicle slid
sideways and was struck by an oncoming vehicle driven by Tom Yang, 29
of La Crosse. Yang was in a 1994 Honda Accord. The impact caused the
Grand Am to roll over several times.
Yang, Jane and Hannan were each treated and released from area hospitals for minor injuries.
Houdek,
42, was transported to Franciscan Skemp. His injuries are being
described as ìhead injuries, he was ejected from the vehicle,î by the
State Highway patrol out of Rochester.
Houdek was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.
