The Caledonia-Spring Grove gymnastics team traveled to Austin Saturday, Feb. 16 to compete in the Section tournament. The competing teams and their scores are: 1. Pine Island 141.35; 2. Red Wing 137.425; 3. Stewartville 132.4; 4. Austin 131.25; 5. Byron-Lourdes 130.825; 6. La Crescent 130.7; Caledonia-Spring Grove 121.075; 8. Wabasha-Kellogg 100.6. The top team, Pine Island, will represent the section at the state meet next weekend in St. Paul. The top four girls in each event qualify for the state meet along with the top team.

Coach Paul Stevens said that the team had a good day overall.

“We did not have our best day on the beam; Ally Sheehan was the only girl that had a no-fall routine,” said Stevens.

“We didn’t have the best team score of the year, but these are all scores that we think could be improved upon for next season,” said Stevens. “We  had a few injuries and other problems toward the end of our season that didn’t help matters either. We have no seniors on the team, so next year should be a strong year for us again.”

On vault Samantha Wermager was eighth with 8.65. Emily Klug scored 7.85; Miranda Moen 7.45, Kaley Cross 7.5 and Skylar Schoh 7.35.

On bars Wermager was 12th with 8.15 and Cross was 22nd with 7.625. Schoh scored 6.175; Klug 6.0 and Miranda Moen 5.725.

On beam Cross was 17th with 7.925; Sheehan 20th with 7.725 and Wermager 24th with 7.45. Moen scored 6.7 and Courtney Gran 6.15.

On floor exercise Cross was 18th with 8.55; Wermager 20th with 8.5 and Moen tied for 30th with 7.85. Klug scored 6.975.
